🇬🇧 The life of a ladybug is a fascinating transformation. It goes through four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The tiny yellow eggs hatch into hungry larvae that roam around devouring aphids. Then comes the pupa stage, during which the ladybug transforms completely. Finally, a beautiful adult emerges, ready to help in the garden!

De kleine gele eitjes komen uit als hongerige larven die bladluizen verslinden. Daarna volgt de popfase, waarin het diertje helemaal transformeert. Tot slot verschijnt het volwassen lieveheersbeestje, klaar om de tuin te helpen!

Cherry Gall

The cherry gall wasp (scientific name: Cynips quercusfolii) is a tiny gall wasp that causes growths, or ‘galls’, on the undersides of oak leaves. The grub remains in the gall after leaf-fall, emerging as an adult wasp in winter. This asexual generation will lay its eggs on the oak tree trunk, which eventually mature to the sexual generation; this generation mates and produces the more obvious galls. The galls look like red cherries and are about 2cm in diameter. The larvae of the wasp feed on the host tissues but cause little damage. The cherry gall wasp is common and can be found from July to October.

Good Sunday morning, everyone. This year we have only seen one monarch butterfly, but in the past, we saw many. Here is a mating pair on some old Queen Anne's lace. They obviously weren't disturbed by me and my camera.

A pair of monarch butterflies are mating on an old Queen Anne's lace stalk. The stalk is brittle and brown, contrasting with the bright colours of the butterflies, which are orange, pale yellow and black with white dots on black wing edges. The black bodies have white dots on them.

I know wasps aren't the cuddliest of pets, but I find them fascinating. They can disassemble an apple in four to five days depending on the weather! #wasps #insectlife #insekten #naturephotography
