To blame #Labor for a fuel price rises is ridiculous. It was successive #LNP and Labor governments who oversaw the degradation of refining and storage capacity, and chemical engineering, and engineering education, in general. We will cope, but it's a timely alert to decouple from fossil fuel dependence.
Fuel prices will always rise during market disruption and manipulation. Real #EnergySecurity requires governments to act and not to rely on private enterprise to determine national policy. Both #Labor and the #LNP have failed that regard. OneNation would be worse still.
Energy security will not be solved by building more refineries and fuel storage. Decarbonising on the other hand is a win-win. Electric trucks are already working in mining, bulk haulage, delivery, waste handling and much more. We, as a people united, need to build better long-haul transport - probably based on, in large part, electric heavy rail. I can't see #Nuclear as a realistic component of #Australia's energy future, as every other renewable source is cheaper, more sustainable and much less risky. Let's get on with it, ready for next #Trump-like emergency or other externally initiated threat. #Insiders
