Losing the Pocket service has put a serious dent in how I process information from the web.
Dammit.
Have reinvigorated an old Instagram account which fixes 90% of the problems I was having but doesn't fix the issue of reading things on my Kobo ereader.
Ah well onwards and upwards..
Wondering where to take refuge now — go back to #Instapaper or try out #Matter and #ReadwiseReader? 🤔

I'm looking for alternatives to #Pocket now that #Mozilla has decided to shut it down.
I've been trying #Instapaper but it seems really slow. For example, it took it a whole day before an article that I had saved even showed up in the app. Has it always been this slow?
I haven't cared about #Pocket in years - but now that it's shutting down I suddenly want to make sure I've got everything copied out of there.
I swear I only ever gave them a username and password - but now they want an email.

I'm learning that @instapaper has one job, and it appears to do that job well.
I have the #instapaper browser extension in Firefox (my not-work browser) and I'll likely be getting it for Chrome (my work browser) and I already have the Android app.
Once you figure out how to get the icon into the Firefox panel, you just click it when you want to save an article to your Instapaper, and you're off to the races.

Very sad to see Pocket is closing down. I've used it for 7 years, to save things I want to read later. At the moment I suspect I'm likely to revert to Instapaper, who I left after their service stopped working for a while in the EU/UK due to GDPR. #Pocket is quitting, so I'm switching to #Instapaper. You can easily export/import your data from #Pocket to #Instapaper.
@gang @mozilla I've been using #Instapaper for some time. I like that it gives you more personalization options with the free tier, and that there's no recommendations. Sadly, it does not have Kobo sync option.

What's the best alternative to #Pocket?
I'm seeing #readeck, #wallabag, #raindropio, #instapaper, #karakeep, #floccus, #memex, #obsidian, and #curiooo.
I need it to do a good job reading articles and be available for web and android. I'd love it to be FOSS and let me support them monthly. I dream of it having great integration with my fedi account.

I'm once again looking for a read-it-later/article archive tool. I think I've tried them all by now and I'm amazed that for such a basic task there's no good solution. I think my demands are very reasonable:
– article content extraction (not just bookmarks) and comfortable reader
– full text search over the entire archive
– website and Android app with synchronization between them
– not a whole lot of random unrelated features like todo lists or whatever thrown in for no reason
I was using Pocket for many years and even paid for the "premium" (which basically got me a few extra fonts because the "premium" features like tag suggestions didn't work), however Pocket got worse and worse at article extraction, to the point where it just opened to website instead of showing the extracted text for more than half of the saved articles. Also no one seems to actively work on it it seems. Pretty much the same problems with Instapaper. I tried Feedly and Inoreader which kinda works I guess but they're primarily RSS readers, which I don't need. raindrop.io does extract article texts but shows them only in the Android app, in a browser it'll still open the website, also the full text search doesn't work reliability. Then there's Wallabag but that seems very Alpha and I don't want to host the service myself. Tried a bunch more which I can't remember right now.
As a temporary solution I'm now saving articles to @notesnook since I'm using that for notes anyway. Article extraction works alright but there's no way to archive notes, so it's all cluttered with articles now and I can barely find my own notes anymore.
If anyone knows of a tool that reliably does all the things mentioned above, please let me know!

Backlogs, wish lists, #streaming media queues: they’re all content FOMO.
I'm playing around with #ReadItLater later services, currently #Pocket and #Instapaper, and while there are things that instapaper manages to parse better than pocket, for the link from here pocket gave me full article, and instapaper the "please log in" version.

Ich hatte zu viele Artikel in verschiedene Ordner verteilt. Scheinbar werden die Artikel nicht mehr angezeigt wenn im Konto zu viele Artikel gespeichert sind. Sie sind aber nicht weg, da die getaggten Artikel in der Tag Übersicht weiterhin sichtbar sind. Wie hoch das Artikel Limit im Free Plan ist, konnte ich bisher nicht heraus finden. - Man fährt also besser lieber etwas selektiver Artikel für später speichern und auch mal ausmisten. #instapaper #omnivore #omnivorealternative
