Mastodon n’est pas un réseau social
Si on pense Mastodon comme un réseau social, on n’y comprend rien. Mastodon est un outil de création de communautés locales qui communiquent entre elles, mais sans aucune unité. Un système qui ressemble fortement… à la sociabilité hors-ligne.

Tiefste Verachtung an diese Unmenschen, meinerseits. Vergleichbares gilt auch für die NWO und ähnliche Drecks-Gruppierungen. Man zeigt keine Stärke, indem man Schwächere tritt. Stärke zeigt man, wenn man Empathie und Liebe den Schwachen und Verletzlichen zuteilwerden lässt. Und wenn man sich aus einer schwächeren Position gegen stärkeres Unrecht aufbaut.

I used to enjoy #deep, highly #nerdy, and rather #philosophical #conversations with many of my #peers and family members. I see that number of people who can "keep up", as it were, dwindling quite fast. Then I scroll through the little corners of the #Internets I do have active, and it astounds me how far people have #fallen, especially the younger generations. So #smart in so many ways - yet so mind #numbed in so much more.

I thought that I ran out of ports on the switch, but after re-arranging the cables, it turned out that there were some empty slots (2+1) on the lower half, but at least I don't need to worry for the future now.
It's a pity that they didn't have the blue one anymore though. The new one is 4 years younger, but the model number is lower.
Although, it is very likely that they are the exact same thing under the hood.

Ugh, this uri versus actual record thing is driving me bugs. The Fediverse requires that all URIs are opaque and unparseable, so you can't assume they'll always be /users/username, and the only real way to get the username is to request the URI, wait for it to arrive, then parse the profile.
So I'm importing these posts from some JSON, and every post has an author, except that author might not have been downloaded yet. So either:
1. I have to put the JSON on hold, wait for the profile to download, then go back to parsing the JSON.
2. I have to have posts refer to an abstract author source, which may refer to an author. So whenever I display a post, I have to get the post from the post source, then the author source from the post, then the author from the author source, a join across 4 tables, 2 of which only exist to connect their URIs to the relavent table.
3. I have a table of pending posts, with all the info I had to save in 1. except the author. When the author's record arrives, I insert that pending post into posts. Thus, I need a post_tags table and a pending_post_tags table, a post_mentions table and a pending_post_mentions table, a post_fields table and a pending_post_fields table, etc... basically a duplicate of my database, except with an author source instead of an author.
I'm leaning towards throwing my hands up and doing 1. but you people. Youuu people just had to make it so sometimes profiles couldn't be requested without an authorized login. I might have a bunch of posts that never get parsed, just because their instance is one of those stubborn micromanaging gits who value power tripping over the fact that public data should be public. I'd like to display the posts with a "no profile available sorry that instance sucks" message, but if I can't put them in the database without an author ffff
