That means that when a large bloc like the EU makes a good tech regulation, it has the power to ripple out across the planet, benefiting all of us – like when the EU forced Apple to switch to standard USB-C cables to charge their devices, and we all got iPhones with USB-C ports.
It makes perfect sense for Australia to import the DMA – after all, Apple and other American tech companies run the same scams on Australians as they do on Europeans."

@edsu Using the #DMA it will also be open to any third party client to enable #e2ee #interoperability with #WhatsApp and #FBMessenger (which are both designated under the DMA) — at least, for their EEA-resident users (thanks to dodgy legal interpretation by #BigTech, and as yet no pushback from the @EUCommission )
#Matrix is also good, more #open and less dependent on US-exposed services than @signalapp 👏

Ads coming to WhatsApp is making me much more frustrated than I already was. I haven’t been updating the app since the introduction of Meta AI, but now WhatsApp is demanding that I update within 15 days or I won’t be able to use the app anymore.
So, the time has come: I have two weeks to backup and quit WhatsApp for good.
Since I’m here: could I also ask for your advice for local-only, not cloud, software that can backup ALL my #WhatsApp chats and store them locally in a browsable format/database? I found out about WhatsApp-Chat-Chat-Exporter but I’d like to learn more before testing it out.
