‘Something to be proud of’: how an Irish town got a sewage makeover – and stopped discharging its waste into the sea
The TU Dublin Academic Hub and Library by O'Donnell & Tuomey Architects was looking resplendent in the spring sunshine when I passed through Grangegorman just after midday today.

I wasn't able to make this event so I'm delighted that it has been recorded for posterity - an interview with Group 91, architects of the Temple Bar Masterplan who changed Irish Architecture for the better and inspired the subsequent generations of architects in Ireland through their work and their teaching.
Inchicore school wins RIAI Triennial Gold Medal award for architecture - and deservedly so. I got to visit this building a few years back during Open House Dublin and it really is an exemplary work and a great learning environment for the school children. Well done to architects, Donaghy + Dimond!

The RIAI Public Choice Award is open for voting.
I quite like the Castleblayney project by Craftstudio Architecture and Gaffney and Cullivan Architects for Monaghan County Council.
It combines adaptive reuse, new build, conservation, restoration, urban design and public realm improvements, and provides an important public service in the heart of the town.

"Fostering a sense of place does not solely depend on the buildings, but how they touch our public space. This case study concludes that in order to achieve a vibrant urban realm, more thoughtful, place-specific, infrastructural design is needed. And some more bins for a pear."

TIL that the Dublin Airport Authority's current planning application for expanding passenger numbers at the airport also includes the demolition of the 1959 North Terminal Building designed by Leo Carroll - a significant example of early modernist architecture in Ireland.

In an era of budget surpluses, Ireland has a great opportunity to invest in its civic infrastructure both physical and social.
"Derrinlough is not only significant for former workers and local communities. Better understanding the momentous transformations that took place in the Midlands in the mid-twentieth century can help us better understand the scale of the energy transition required today."

Ireland's transport network has its faults, but when it works, it works well.
My choice of transport also meant that I could enjoy a cycle along the #Salthill seafront in the early morning sunshine and stumble across a nice bit of civic architecture like this new library by McCarthy O'Hora Architects. #IrishArchitecture
