This is an overdue appreciation post for @findinglaw - thank you! 👏🏼
Of course, if Australia were to become a republic, it could follow the examples of the more *interesting* countries in this respect. Not everyone who came later took the U.S.A. as a model to follow.
Eire and Germany do not require their members of their legislatures to swear oaths of office at all.
I wonder how much traction a "no more bloody oaths!" movement would get in a republican Australia. (-:

Paging lawyers in Ireland: I thought champerty and maintenance was prohibited in this jurisdiction. Yet, this is just the latest example of it (once again, in attempts to halt improvements to Dublin city transport).

There is a lot of humanity in this article about the small claims court. And a snail-bottle explanation.

Irish regulator fines Facebook owner €265m for privacy rules breaches
That’s a serious chunk of change which Meta/Facebook will likely appeal to death. Ultimately, all or some portion of this fine will be paid. I assume that investigation costs did not come to €265m, so where does the money go when paid?
Question for #irishlaw - is there a similar principle like the wednesbury principle applied to rational/irrational decisions in Irish law?
A mild rant: Reading #Irish / #EU #legal decisions pains me. For whatever reason, they feel overly convoluted, with muddled, stilted language, and a weird amount of repetition for no reason.
