Man erkennt gut die dunklen Wolken aus Staub, die von dem Stern in der Mitte angeleuchtet werden.
Der Irisnebel befindet sich in einer Entfernung von etwa 1100 Lichtjahren.

Took another stab at processing this target - from data captured in May. Not sure if it's a whole lot better. But it was a good chance to continue learning GHS - Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch - which I'm growing quite fond of. Also used AI - which seems to work well for gradient removal.

At center of image is a bright area of blue nebulosity. At the center of this blue nebulosity is a bright white star.

Image of the beautiful Iris Nebula. NGC 7023 is about 6 light-years across, and 1,300 light-years away. Within the Iris, dusty nebular material surrounds a massive, hot, young star in its formative years. Central filaments of cosmic dust glow with a reddish photo-luminesence, as some dust grains effectively convert the star's invisible ultraviolet radiation to visible red light. Yet the dominant color of the nebula is blue, characteristic of dust grains reflecting starlight. Dark, obscuring clouds of dust and cold molecular gas are also present and can lead the eye to see other convoluted and fantastic shapes. Infrared observations indicate that this nebula may contain complex carbon molecules known as PAHs.

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #IrisNebula is a reflection nebula in Cepheus about 1400 light years away. It is a small subject in comparison to a lot of DSOs, only 6 light years across. This image is a first for me--I let my equipment run all night so this is 80 five-minutes exposures for a total of about 6 and a half hours. I find reflection nebulae particularly challenging to edit so I would have liked to get more definition in the dark dust surrounding the nebula. #StillLearning
