Following an Islamophobia incident in North York in late 2015,

HïMY SYeD led The History of Muslims in Toronto – A Special December
Jane’s Walk a few days before Christmas.

It was well attended; much was learned, much was understood.

That very long walk was intended as a never-to-be-repeated event.

Yet Islamophobia persists… Quebec City Mosque Attack, and then Etobicoke, and then London.

This Jane’s Walk explains how 3rd, 4th, & 5th Generation Muslim Torontonians helped build our city.

This Jane’s Walk will visit four locations in the High Park neighbourhood and The Junction to reveal that history.

• Toronto’s FIRST Halal Butcher Shop – Roncesvalles Village
• Jami Mosque – Toronto’s Second Islamic Centre and its national significance
• The little known history of The Albanian Muslim Society of Toronto – The pivotal role of its founder, Reggie Assim, Toronto's First Imam
• The Dundas Street Mosque – The City’s First Masjid

Quién controla el espacio público controla la narrativa de la ciudad. 🏙️✊ Como advirtió Jane Jacobs, 'las ciudades tienen la capacidad de proveer algo para todos, solo si se construyen para todos'. Pero bajo el capitalismo, estos espacios son privatizados o vigilados.
Murray Bookchin, desde el municipalismo libertario, propone recuperarlos como ámbitos de autogestión y encuentro colectivo. En Latinoamérica, las marchas de octubre 2019 en Chile o las recientes movilizaciones masivas en plazas de #Argentina en la #MarchaFederaldelOrgulloLGBTTIQAntifascistayAntiracista son ejemplos de cómo el espacio público se vuelve trinchera de lucha y conciencia. 哦上面提到的那个 #城市规划相关的理论，我印象里是这样的
上个世纪的时候全球城市化进程飞快，然后人们很快发现城市越来越大、每天浪费在路上的时间越来越多，堵车之类的事情也越来越频繁
然后好像有个女性学者做了研究后发现，越是建设公路越会增加堵车，因为建设公路需要征地、进而把人们赶往郊区，而新增的工作往往都在城市中心区域，这就导致增加了通勤的需要。因此她提出一个理论是，合理的城市规划并不是按照功能区域集中建设（所谓职住分离），而是应该把住宅区和商业区混合在一起，以减少因为区域间通勤导致的交通流量

……但是我刚才去搜就死活搜不到这个理论的完整阐述以及那位女性学者是谁了（而且好像我记得我看的那篇报道还提到那位学者并非城市规划科班出身的来着）

I don’t have a nice simple intro to #janejacobs and her relatively complicated but important contributions to urban theory, except the big ideas that context, scale, and preservation are important and sudden shocking change is not always the best choice. She is often compared with the grand modernist schemes of her foil #robertmoses

Empfehle da immer als Literatur #JaneJacobs Tod und Leben großer amerikanischer Städte. Aber Städtebauer lieben Neubauviertel entgegen jeglicher Erfahrungswerte.
