📢 New preprint! Ten Simple Rules for Running a ReproducibiliTea Journal Club

The idea of ReproducibiliTea is simple: Get a group of aspiring early career researchers together, drink tea, and critically discuss issues surrounding reproducibility, open research, and academic culture. But how do you even get started? How do you engage people? How do you balance logistics and inspiration?

In our paper, we as past and present members of the ReproducibiliTea Global Steering Committee have drawn on our experience and that of our wider network to offer you 10 simple rules for organising a ReproducibiliTea journal club. Our aim is to equip you as early career researchers with the tools needed to lead grassroots change in research culture. Whether you are launching your first meeting or sustaining a long-running journal club, these rules are designed to help you brew a welcoming, impactful, and inspired community – one cup of tea at a time.🍵

Check out the preprint on MetaArXiv: doi.org/10.31222/osf.io/swg38_

is article splurge day, but I also have to do some admin for and the inventors' club, and I'd like to maintain the slight momentum I gathered yesterday. (Do I make Python pandas work or do I rewrite some simple stats code in awk: decisions decisions!)

It's the last week of our intern's projects here @iaacsic.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy and they are giving presentations in our #JournalClub. Pieter has been working with me on predicting orbits of comets for @cometinterceptor.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy, while Maxime showed some cool seismic wave simulations inside #asteroids!

What are formats that work well to organize JOURNAL CLUBS? What motivates people to contribute and to commmit?
PLEASE SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES!

(I want to start a journal club on breeding for agroecology in my chairgroup).

📚 New Nat Rev Neurosci #JournalClub by @juangallego: Neural #manifolds: more than the sum of their neurons. He reflects on the shift from single-neuron mappings to population-level #ManifoldRepresentations and suggests that neural manifolds might capture fundamental principles of neural computation and do not just serve as interpretative tools 👍

In our recent #JournalClub, I presented Genkin et al. (2025), who decode #DecisionMaking in the #PremotorCortex of #macaques as low-dimensional #latent #dynamics shared across #NeuralPopulations. Their generative model links tuning curves, spike-time variability, and stimulus-dependent potential landscapes to a common internal decision variable. I summarized and discussed their findings in this blog post:

Hospitalized preterm infants have a higher chance of brief apnea episodes within 48 hours after receiving their 2-month vaccinations, but no serious complications were observed. 💉

🩺 This supports continuing timely vaccination while monitoring for apnea in the NICU.

Thinking of organizing a regular (every 2 months) full-online journal club on #HippocampalReplay (and more generally, internally-generated sequences phenomena).

Would anyone from here be interested? I had been organizing something similar (IGSJC) where the first author presents a recent paper, but it has only been every year or so, this would be more regular and not necessarily presented by the first author.

The goal would be to keep up with the replay literature with a critical (and fair) approach. If you are interested can you let me know your timezone? 🧠

Recently, we discussed this insightful paper by Squadrani et al (2024) in our #JournalClub. It explores how #astrocytes enhance #SynapticPlasticity during #ReversalLearning by modulating D-serine levels, providing a #biophysical basis for dynamic #LTP thresholds. The findings suggest astrocytic signaling is crucial for #AdaptiveLearning, linking #glial activity to #behavioral flexibility. Here’s a summary from our JC:

Reading Mental exploration of future choices during immobility theta oscillations

If you've read it, will you let me know what you think?

The authors look at #ThetaSequences in a working memory task in a radial arm maze. They find theta during immobility (makes sense, e.g. we saw that in our two-goals task). They also find that theta sequences might preferentially represent the next goal (also makes sense, e.g. Hippocampal theta sequences reflect current goals)!

I have only done a quick reading so far, but am confused by a few points:

Let me know what you think!
