#JustShootMe

I've been (re)watching #JustShootMe and aside from the poorly aged pop culture references (Donald Trump adoration, mention of Puff Daddy parties, etc.), every time I see George Segal I wrestle w/the thought he was in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Mayim saying "Only a regular cast member on several genre defining sitcoms could afford" to Wendie Malick is perfect.

Just sent an email with a subject "Scheduling V2 (Final) (Draft) Revised-2 final-b" and I was, at most, only slightly exaggerating. Sigh.

I love re-watching #justShootMe, but the jokes around the LGBT community did not age well AT ALL 😖

Is there a Finch in your Office?😄

Maya tests her theory that good looks get special treatment by bringing in two job candidates - one handsome but not smart, and one qualified but not good-looking. Handsome Derek gets the job and asks Maya out, while skilled Neil reveals he already has a job and asks her out, but she turns him down. Meanwhile, Elliott tricks Finch with help from Nina.

#JustShootMe! 033 (1998) - 6/10
Middle-of-the-road episode.

1️⃣ There’s another #Trump joke.

2️⃣ And the a-story has Maya fighting back against her father’s natural tendency to deceive others in business matters. Some funny Jack-Dennis moments.

1️⃣ Funny a-story gives #DavidSpade and #EnricoColantoni some lovely scenes together.

2️⃣ The b-story has Jack making silly bets with #DonaldTrump. #Trump jokes in ‘90s sitcoms haven’t aged well.

📺 My 347th #TVReview of 2023. Averaging 2h12m of TV, per day.

Clever, funny.

✅ There’s a blood drive at the magazine, and different characters come in and talk to Maya. Each flashback shows their first meeting with Jack. As the time goes by, we realise the episode is really about Jack and how he rescued all these people. It works really well, and it’s lovely.

✅ There are a couple of impressive twists/reveals at the end.

📺 My 312th #TVReview of 2023.

1️⃣ It’s an average episode, with two okay storylines and some amusing moments.

2️⃣ The gags that it does have are overused. Such as, the constant juxtaposition of the war games with the pampered lifestyles of the participants. Good for one or two chuckles at the start, maybe. But they keep going back to the same well. Eventually, it’s not funny anymore.

3️⃣ The congressman storyline seems underdeveloped.

I don't pay attention to much when it comes to so-called "reality TV". But, when even I encounter discussions about ‘MILF Manor,’, I have to stop myself from banging my head against the wall. I'm sure that there are other ways to get the point across.

The #Thanksgiving episode of #JustShootMe is the ultimate in comical misunderstandings. It rivals Too Close for Comfort in zany antics. It's like a masterclass in #sitcom writing. Bravo.

I'm old and I wake up early every morning and need to go out and get coffee and work on my book. Because I don't want to spend $21 a week on coffee at Starbucks I usually go to McDonald's or some fast food restaurant that offers like a $1.50 senior's coffee. It took me about a year but I've totally perfected the method of asking for the senior's coffee rate in the most entitled voice possible. "I'll have a medium /senior's/ coffee." Meet me at the next skeptical convention I attend and I'll do it for you. It's gold. And I save 28 cents.

Anyway, every old white male in North America pretty much congregates at every fast food place offering a cheap senior's coffee. Most aren't working on a book so they all get together and talk about stuff. And I have to overhear that stuff while I type away. Most of the stuff the old regs talk about at the my regular McDonald's haunt isn't too painful to listen to. I live in a pretty liberal city. But I'm back visiting family for Christmas in Windsor and I decided to give Wendy's new breakfast menu a try. Spoiler: meh. The central table had six old guys so there wasn't really any place I could sit to not listen. And the topic of the day was global warming! You can believe six guys who arrive in six pickup trucks had their doubts. The most painful comment to hear was by one graduate of the Dunning-Kruger School of Meteorology who intoned "actually, global warning is a gift from god. We want the polar ice caps to melt as we're running out of fresh water."
