There's a donghua of the same name as Love between Fairy and Devil (as well as another live action Cdrama). The plot in the donghua is different and features a lot of summoning style attacks. New season will be out soon this summer, from what I saw in a trailer. I like the style, but now I wonder which adaptation is closer to the source material, since there are many differences between the two. Either way, it was a cool looking anime. I have a soft spot for white haired demon characters. I wish they'd kept the white hair for Donghang Qincang in the live action, but he was still pretty hot with the long black hair. I wanna check out other donghuas of this genre. Delve deeper into xianxia dramas, my current hyperfixation. #justwatched
Thought I'd check Netflix since I pay for it and watched the live action series Love between Fairy and Devil, based on the novel Demon King by Jiu Lu Fei Xiang. It's a romance story about a heartless immortal set on destroying the Fairy realm and becoming the leader of all 3 realms. His plans are thwarted by the goddess of war, sacrificing her life to curse his army and imprison him. 30,000 years pass and he's freed accidentally by a fairy who unknowingly cursed him, causing them to share their feelings and bodily harm. If she dies, so would he. He has no choice but to protect her at all costs.
The production design and visual effects are so beautiful. It truly looks like a magical setting filled with ethereal characters. The costume designs of the high gods and royalty are luxurious and meticulously detailed. I could honestly ramble about just the clothes because the choice of fabrics, cuts, and designs for each character are exquisite and lovely.
There's bits of comedy, revenge plots, machinations, romance, familial issues, and the like. I was quite engrossed. There's 36 episodes of about 40 min each. I feel like some parts jumped too abruptly from one scene to another, but overall the story had a decent pace to tell the plot, subplots for each character, and everything coming together at the end. I've been feeling quite emotional, so I cried at the sappy love parts. It was cute, funny, and entertaining. I had no expectations since I didn't know anything about the story besides the series summary on the description. So I was pleasantly surprised to find something good to watch. I recommend it if you like xianxia fantasy. Which I've been on a streak lately. #justwatched #tvreview
