These masks my son and I wear... They are not a ritual, not a metaphor, it is a fucking filter that doesn't filter out f-bombs, it helps filter out airborne viruses, it is called an #N95 or #kn95 or #kf94 or #FFP2 #respirator. I often call it a #respiratormask different than #SurgicalMask or #DustMask or #MedicalMask or Halloween mask or African mask or fucking ski mask in ability function and purpose. Just had to fucking clarify that somewhere.

@larsmb @trendless @maskup

So, if say on April 1, 20% of North Americans wear an or for 2 months, this would be pronounced?

"Are you going to wear a mask forever?"

Masks are a tool. When indoor air is clean & transmission is low, the need decreases. But right now? Many places lack good ventilation, and COVID-19 is year-round. A well-fitted mask indoors is a no-brainer.

"Masks are a tool we can use when and where it makes sense—especially indoors, in poorly ventilated areas, or when community transmission is high."A digital graphic with a white background and a "WHY MASK?" header in a blue button at the top. In the top-left corner, there are five colored dots (pink, green, light green, blue, and dark blue). The whn.global logo is in the top-right corner.

Below the header, there is a red rounded rectangular banner with white text that reads:
"DETAILED EXPLANATION"

The main text is black and reads:

"As our understanding of airborne transmission grows, we see that clean indoor air—via ventilation and filtration—makes a huge difference in whether masks are needed. If rooms are well-ventilated or have effective air filtration systems, the need for continuous masking decreases because the overall prevalence of airborne pathogens decreases."
"Right now, many indoor environments still lack adequate ventilation and filtration, and testing before gatherings isn’t a widespread norm. Under these conditions, masking is a straightforward way to reduce risk."A digital graphic with a white background and a "WHY MASK?" header in a blue button at the top. In the top-left corner, there are five colored dots (pink, green, light green, blue, and dark blue). The whn.global logo is in the top-right corner.

Below the header, there is a red rounded rectangular banner with white text that reads:
"DETAILED EXPLANATION (CONT’D.)"

The main text is black and reads:

"Respiratory aerosols linger in a room for hours, and it’s only a matter of time before other people breathe them in. COVID-19 doesn’t just follow 'flu season' patterns; it’s a year-round concern."
"We hope for future innovations—like faster, more accessible tests, or standard clean-air practices—that might make routine masking less necessary. But until then, wearing a well-fitted mask indoors is a no-brainer in many situations."

@PacificNic I have never stopped wearing a mask. Sometimes I’m the only person in a very large crowd to be wearing a mask. I still mask up.#KN95

@dgentry
Yes yes yes omggg

Can you (theoretically) 3D design / print an off-brand filter case for See Us 95?
Theirs are so dainty they break mid-use, leaving you with one side flopping off while walking about.

Or even just an ergonomic ring shape with smooth hook nubs at the edge for straps to tie or loop onto.

That way, you use any surgical or actual KN99 or FFP3 respirator as the filter.
Then you fit this plastic edge press over it, pressing the (new) seal firmly against your skin.

Tada! Your fit test is now actually likely to pass!
