This is the next of the saga of Norwegian 787 orders stranded in production when the airline went out of business. The whole batch have been bought by Lufthansa to get ahead of factory backlog. The Alaska Airlines route between Everett #KPAE and Portland #KPDX may change how we track planes flying to or from the Boeing Portland Paint Hangar. Usually a new 777 (or reworked 787, but they're almost done with those) is paired with a Boeing Crew Transport turboprop, either a C208 or PC12 to take the test pilots down or back. If they take Alaska, it means one less thing to catch an avgeek's attention. There was no crew transport after Tuesday's 737MAX8 arrival either. #aviation #avgeek #PNW

Lufthansa doesn't currently serve Portland PDX. (They have in the past.) This 787-9 Dreamliner was just out of the Boeing Portland Paint Hangar, with an extended visit for interior work, replacing equipment from a cancelled order by Norwegian. Brand new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner painted in TAAG Angola Airlines livery but not yet delivered to the customer. Boeing ferried it from Everett Paine Field #KPAE to Portland #KPDX directly, with no test flight maneuvers. The quick 35 minute flight is not common for ferrying new planes to Portland - this plane has apparently already been test-flown. The pre-delivery Boeing 787-9 (in Shanghai Airlines livery) departed Portland #KPDX today as Boeing 906 to Moses Lake #KMWH. But it did a missed approach and "diverted" to Everett #KPAE. I put it in quotes because Boeing test pilots usually fly to Eastern Washington State for test maneuvers. I have to correct an assumption I made when a Boeing-owned 787-9 arrived at Portland #KPDX on Aug 4 (with RAT deployed by the Boeing test pilots as part of checking out its systems). It was evidently not in Portland for paint. The Boeing Portland Paint Hangar also does maintenance. It flew out today still wearing Shanghai Airlines livery, returning to Everett #KPAE via Moses Lake #KMWH.
