"Optimising your mechanical keyboard for maximum efficiency and audio-tactile satisfaction"
...might be the title of the detailed article I want to write about this... once I have my site up and a few more ducks in a reliable row.
For now, just look at my pretty multicoloured switches:
• Yellow: Kailh Speed Gold (clicky)
• Purple: Kailh Box Crystal Royal (tactile)
• Brown: MX Cherry Brown (tactile)
The short, short, version (Spaceballs, anyone?) is this: yellow requires extremely little force and activation distance and includes a satisfying "tap" sound rather than the usual click-click, purple lets you know you've hit it and you don't have to bottom it out, brown are the modifiers you hold so you're going to bottom them out anyway - you could even use linears there but I prefer at least a little feedback. The browns have less activation force and feedback than the purples, making them smooth and easy to use.
In the full article I intend to go into a lot more detail with my explanations behind the arrangement. In addition, this is only my first draft arrangement after significant design. Time will tell if it lives up to my intention.
This setup makes for an extremely satisfying, not too noisy, electric-typewriter kind of experience, and is ideal for typists and programmers.
