Advice needed: I want to set up #Linux Kiosk PCs. Users must log in with a card ID and password that are verified via a PHP webservice against a MariaDB.

The challenge: I need the Linux desktop login (e.g., via a Display Manager like LightDM/GDM) to authenticate against the custom remote service.

How can I implement this? Custom PAM module? Python-pam? Scripts?🤔

Die Nacht war kurz.

Gestern habe ich noch eine einfache Möglichkeit gefunden einen #Raspberry mit Display im #Kioskmode zum Zentraldisplay unseres #homeassistant zu machen.

Was ich nicht bedacht hatte: für das 7“ #Touchdisplay braucht es ein spezielles Layout.
Also Helfer und Automationen am Fließband erstellen um den #WAF auf ein überlebensfähiges Niveau zu bringen.
Das hat dann doch länger gedauert als gedacht.

The first thing people do with hand tracking is look at their hands.
The second thing they do is touch their fingers.
Then Quest shuts down the game; because that's the hand gesture Meta chose as an 'escape' key.

I encourage players to see/feel their hands in the experience because it is so much more enjoyable and immersive.
Literally the entire point of mixed reality.
This menu punishes all that fun with a distracting, overly sensitive button that apparently cannot be disabled.

Tested this with a call to `startLockTask` in the onCreate method of a blank app and indeed the LockTask mode does nothing on a Quest 3.
It does throw a Lock Task violation when it's not whitelisted though! 😬

I have now tried a custom #Android AccessibilityService to try and keep a custom app locked in the foreground but to no avail... #LockTask mode also doesn't seem to work

Okay, I think I have found at least a partial solution to a #KioskMode on the #Quest3.

It's actually possible to register a BroadcastReceiver for the `RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED` Intent in an own custom app that can launch another app.
Doing this, I can finally start my #Godot XR application at boot time! 😍
I was also able to register this custom app as a device owner for (future) permissions like device wiping etc.

I will publish a Git repo with this example shortly.
