In an effort to stave off the societal bleakness that is trying to encroach on my psyche today, I have decided that I'm going to try and make the most of it. It's a beautiful day outside, gonna try to get my unemployment sorted, and then maybe spend some time brushing up on my Sandan rank requirements so that I can test for #karate and #kobudo this summer.
But first, it's time for lunch. Need fuel to fight off the dystopian sludge that threatens to drag me down.

This is just one of my periodic reminders that the next time you're watching a movie with weapon fighting (or any #martialarts, really), even though the actors make it look easy, it certainly is not. Those actors are certainly athletic, but it's highly likely that they are not skilled martial artists.
Those fight scenes are choreographed down to the last strike and the sequences are practiced over and over until they look good on film. In fact, many of them are choreographed specifically so that they DO look good on film. They are nothing like real fights with weapons.
Getting anywhere close to that kind of weapon mastery in real life requires years of training, dedication, and practice. There is no shortcut. And trying to fight while blindfolded is myth and legend and will get you hurt or killed. I'm just sayin'.
So by all means, learn #kobudo, #iaido, and whatever #martialarts interest you. Just don't expect to come out the other side an action hero, because they're not real. :holdthepain:

It has been on my mind for the longest time, but after discussing with my sensei I finally started self-training with a bō (long staff). I’m studying the basics with video material, and started daily 10-15min exercises in a neighbor park. My mid-term objective is to learn a kata and do a small demonstration in my dojo to other black belts!

Yesterday in #espoo #finland we were studying the use of #nunchaku and #surujin, which both share a lot of similarities, while still having their own distinct methods of use.
Surujin is especially challenging to use in the paired drills, perhaps as the control of the ball is not that easy as it would be with a stick, but with a bit of #training, anything is possible.
