Today is the 5th anniversary of when me and Chris first dropped the trailer for our comic book series, Seeds of Spring. I still find this video really fun and charming.
It's a comic about Naguset, a modern Canadian Mi'kmaq teenager, who exchanges books and mix tapes with her pen pal, Chris. Her imagination sparks when he sends her a biography of the 19th century Russian anarchist Peter Kropotkin. The story juxtaposes Naguset's personal and political coming-of-age in her loving family home with Kropotkin's rocky upbringing in a princely palace. These two stories of eventful lives and bold hearts are interwoven with Kropotkin's theories of freedom, Mi'kmaq vocabulary and social history, and an uplifting punk soundtrack, creating a unique reading experience bound to inspire readers to think in new ways about the issues of our time.

It's a historical drama/teen fiction about the life of Peter Kropotkin, seen though the perspective of a modern day indiginous teenager. The fifth book of the series was nominaded of Best independant comic in the 2023 Sequential Magazine awards.

Elisée Reclus (1830–1905) war einer der bedeutendsten #Geografen seiner Zeit, eine wichtige Figur des anarchistischen politischen Denkens und ein lebenslanger #Revolutionär, der eine aktive Rolle in der Pariser #Kommune und der Ersten Internationale spielte. Für einen politischen Denker des 19. Jahrhunderts war er außergewöhnlich, weil er sich sein ganzes Leben lang nicht nur für die soziale #Revolution engagierte, sondern auch für radikale #Ökologie, gegen #Patriarchat und für die #Gleichberechtigung von #Frauen, gegen #Rassismus und #Kolonialismus sowie gegen #Speziesismus und für #Tierschutz.Am bekanntesten ist Reclus für sein Werk „Neue Universelle Geographie“, ein 20-bändiges, 18.000 Seiten starkes Werk, das als größte #Einzelleistung in der Geschichte der #Geographie gilt. Reclus gilt weithin als Begründer der Sozialgeographie. Sein letztes #Werk, „Humanité et Terre“ (Menschheit und Erde), war eine 3500 Seiten umfassende Synthese aus Geographie, Geschichte, Anthropologie, #Philosophie und #Sozialtheorie und ist sein nachhaltigster Beitrag zum modernen #Denken. Das Werk beginnt mit der Aussage, dass „die Menschheit die Natur ist, die sich ihrer selbst bewusst wird“, und ist eine umfassende Darstellung der gesamten Geschichte der #Menschheit und der Erde sowie eines gemeinsamen planetarischen Schicksals, das sich durch ein tiefes Verständnis des großen Verlaufs der #Geogeschichte offenbart.
#Reclus' Geschichte der Menschheit und der Erde hat zwei Dimensionen. Die eine ist seine Darstellung des Prozesses der #Selbstverwirklichung des Menschen in dialektischer Wechselwirkung mit der #Natur. Er zeigt, wie das natürliche Milieu die menschliche Entwicklung prägt, während die Menschheit gleichzeitig zur Entfaltung und Blüte der natürlichen Welt beiträgt. Er zeigt, dass der Inhalt der Geogeschichte eine #Dialektik zwischen den schöpferischen Kräften der Freiheit und den einschränkenden Kräften der Herrschaft ist. Seine Idee, dass alle Phänomene der Geschichte sowohl progressive als auch regressive Aspekte enthalten und dass jede Tendenz sorgfältig analysiert werden muss, ist eines seiner einflussreichsten Konzepte.
Reclus zeigt, dass der historische Fortschritt vom Wachstum der gegenseitigen Hilfe (l’entr’aide) und der sozialen Zusammenarbeit abhängt – Ideen, die seinen jüngeren Kollegen #Kropotkin stark beeinflusst haben. Reclus behauptet, dass die vollständige Selbstverwirklichung der Menschheit in der Natur von einer sozialen Revolution abhängt, die mutualistische Praktiken in einer freien, egalitären, anarchistisch-kommunistischen Gesellschaft verwirklicht. Außerdem meint er, dass das Schicksal der Erde davon abhängt, ob die Menschheit soziale Institutionen und Praktiken aufbauen kann, die eine tiefe Sorge um die Natur und alle Lebewesen auf dem Planeten zeigen.
Die andere Seite von Reclus' #Weltgeschichtsdarstellung konzentriert sich auf die lange Geschichte der #Herrschaft. Er kritisiert den zentralisierten bürokratischen Staat und den industriellen Kapitalismus ziemlich heftig, sieht aber andere Formen der Herrschaft nicht als untergeordnete Bereiche. Er war ein radikaler #Feminist und ein vehementer Gegner der männlichen Dominanz sowie ein glühender Gegner aller Formen von Rassismus und der eurozentrischen Herabwürdigung indigener Kulturen. Er war ein früher Kritiker der ökologischen Zerstörung durch rücksichtslose #Industrialisierung und technologische #Rationalisierung und prangerte bereits in den 1860er Jahren die Zerstörung alter Wälder an. Darüber hinaus war er ein unermüdlicher Verfechter des ethischen #Vegetarismus und der humanen Behandlung von Tieren.

Seeds of Spring is a biography of Peter Kropotkin, a famous former russian aristocrat who abandonned his noble titles to become a scientist and one of most important anarhcist thinkers of the 20th century. The story is told from the perspective a a modern day Mi'kmaq teenager named Naguset.
In a boat on a serene lake, Naguset and Mandy discuss their futures and their mothers. Later, they dance away their troubles. Peter, stymied by bureaucracy heads even further east to conduct a survey of Manchuria. His new beard creates welcome moment of levity before he has to deal with a disaster that makes him question his life choices. He takes charge of what he can, crystallizing his principles about leadership and community.

W ostatnim dniu maja, podczas ciszy wyborczej, gdy większość Polaków drapała sie po głowie, przy grylu i piwie, nad wyborem nowego prezydenta RP, lawirujác gęstymi myślami między umaczanym w mafijnych strukturach kibolu lub "mniejszym złu" (pijącym piwko z faszyzującą prawicą i kapitalistyczną deweloperką) - nasz anarchistyczny kolektyw nakarmił ponad pięćdziesiąt osób, które w życiu codziennym nie mają za wiele (poza rentą, emeryturą, skromną zapomogą) lub nie mają niczego, nawet dachu nad głową.
A dzieje się tak, gdyż od lat trzymamy się ideii "Pomocy Wzajemnej" (Mutual Aid) zaproponowanej z końcem XIX wieku przez P. Kropotkina, który zauważył, iż „wśród różnych gatunków trwa ogromna ilość walk i eksterminacji; jednocześnie jest tyle samo, a może nawet więcej, wzajemnego wsparcia, wzajemnej pomocy i wzajemnej obrony… A towarzyskość jest w takim samym stopniu prawem natury, jak walka”.
Kropotkinowska wizja współpracy i pomocy wzajemnej to wystarczający argument przeciwko teoriom darwinizmu społecznego, które podkreślają konkurencję i przetrwanie najsilniejszych. Zamiast tego Kropotkin argumentuje, że mutual aid ma pragmatyczne zalety dla przetrwania społeczności ludzkich i zwierzęcych(..)
