Das Cover des Romans Kumari von Philip Krömer ist gezeichnet.

Die Zeichnung stellt die titelgebende Kumari in ihrem traditionellen Gewand dar. Es besteht aus einer hohen Mütze mit zweit Trottelbändern und einem reich verzierten Gewand. Das Gesicht der Kumari ist stark geschminkt.

Auch im Kurzurlaub wird zu den Buntstiften gegriffen. Erstes Bildchen ist inspiriert von meiner jüngsten Lektüre, Philip Krömers Kumari.

Das Buntstiftbildchen soll drei übereinender liegende Blutpfützen darstellen, in denen ein Menschenkopf, eine Hand, eine Hand, die ein Buch hält und ein Tierschädel schwimmen.

Kumari von Philip Krömer ist eine fesselnde Geschichte um den Anfang des Endes der Monarchie in Nepal. Ganz auf die Menschen dort ausgerichtet, erlebte ich hautnah, was 2001 dort so in etwa geschah. Werd ich noch intensiver in einer kommenden Rezi untersuchen.

I took this at Kumari Ghar in 2022. It is in Durbar Square in Kathmandu. Kumari Ghar is the palace of the living goddess Kumari. Kumaris are drawn from the Newar community, the original inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley. The way it was explained to me, the goddess would once come down to earth to advise the ruler of Nepal, but during one of her visits, she noticed that he was lusting after her. After refusing to return for a while, she returned to Earth as a prepubescent girl. Once the girl reaches puberty, the goddess leaves the body and is just a person. The community then needs to find the next Kumari.

I was in the courtyard for an audience with the Kumari, where I was told to remain silent, keep my hands in a prayer shape out of respect, and not take any photos. An older woman came to the window, yelled something down, and then the Kumari came to the window.

This is a three-story-tall courtyard. The walls are red stone and the wooden bits around windows and doors are painted black. There are people sitting on ledges and a small tree in the middle of the courtyard.
