I used #Ubuntu with the #Unity desktop for a while, but then switched to #LinuxMint because of its ease of use.
I now use #LinuxMintDebianEdition (#LMDE) because of its better compatibility with RaspberryPi and #Raspbian (#RaspberryPiOS).

Das kann ich mir vorstellen, ich habe 2005 mit #Mandrake Linux begonnen. Kam dann zu #Ubuntu und weiter zu #LinuxMint, welches ich aktuell in der #LMDE Version 6 benutze.

TIL - it's super easy to install #Linux #Mint or #LMDE with #BTRFS as root filesystem. And this is very good for someone with multiple drives in their system.

Ok, caught in the #Debian trap. I‘d need a newer #gvfs or #smb implementation in hope things are fixed then. But #LMDE is even slower than #Debian, so no updates yet.

I've installed #LMDE 7 #Gigi on my laptop and I must say... Now I'm tempted to switch from #linuxmint 22.2 to LMDE 7 on my main rig, once it releases. It's basically Debian Stable but with Cinnamon instead of GNOME. Which is juuuust fine by me!

@rl_dane @mntmn have your considered #LMDE ? Linux Mint Debian Edition? Would be easy too use for a less tech savvy ex windows user. No Ubuntu crap under the hood. Uses Plymouth by default I believe

Tonight i successfully tested [in #QEMU #KVM #VMs in my main pc #ArchLinux Host] PoC for overlaying my #VPN's rpm pkg, downloaded from the VPN site coz not in repos, atop the base image in atomics #Kalpa & #Kinoite. Both launch, both accept my login, both connect to my nominated VPN servers in said GUI app. This was a mandatory requirement before i could seriously consider installing either of these onto my Lappy, in place of current #LMDE. Time permitting, tomorrow i shall proceed.

Kalpa or Kinoite, Kinoite or Kalpa? 🤔

Despite Kinoite being mature & in stable release, with Kalpa being only in alpha status, i tend to prefer Kalpa over Kinoite. So, i think i shall first install Kalpa, but i could always fall back later to Kinoite if something proves amiss with the alpha. Mind you, both have been running in my VMs for a long time now, both pretty well.

@berniethewordsmith Welcome to the community. I, too, came from Ubuntu and found #LinuxMint to be a much better experience. I am now using Linux Mint Debian Edition (#LMDE) 6 (Faye) with Cinnamon and love it.

So, ich denke, mein Desktop kann sich sehen lassen. Größtenteils sind die Anzeigen statisch, d. h.: Die Boxen links und rechts neben dem Wappen zeigen immer festgelegte Informationen an.

Einzig die Box unter dem Wappen ist dynamisch. Wenn kein Radiostream läuft, zeigt es die Laufzeit des Rechners an und welchen Linux-Kernel ich verwende. Läuft ein Radiostream, werden Radiosender, Artist und Titel angezeigt.
