Some thoughts about language immersion:

Wish I could learn Modern Standard #Arabic through immersion, but all I've found were cartoons. I'll definitely go for TV series as my main learning material when learning a dialect though.

I had my first shadowing session for European #Portuguese yesterday. And, oh my, was it weird. Saying things out loud, even when I'm alone in the room, makes me feel so embarrassed. But I need to stick to it to make any progress. I feel like, especially in the European version, pronunciation is the hardest part.

I'm forever struggling to find a sustainable language-learning routine. Whatever I do, it only seems to last for a couple of weeks before I fall off the wagon again. I'm currently trying to train the reflex of opening the language app every time I pick up my phone. Even if it's just for reviewing a single word. This might be something. No thinking process involved, no chance to get lazy.

After 25 days of consistent learning suddenly my Arabic flow is gone. It's so hard to sit down to it... What do you do when the motivation is gone? ๐

After countless times of trying and giving up... I finally feel like I'm making any progress in #Arabic at all. It slowly transforms in my mind from this blob of difficulty into actual words and sentences. I'm in awe.

Learning #German as a Polish native:
- We have 4 cases.
- Yes, I know what they are, we have 7 of them.
- The verbs take a different form for every person.
- That's only logical.
- And we gender our nouns.
- Well, obviously.
Learning German as an English speaker:
*confusion and panic*
Continued in comment.
Just realized we're raising our dog to be pentalingual. She's being spoken to in #German, #Polish and #English on a daily basis.
We also teach her some #Spanish to honor her heritage.
So far she knows - stay, such!, bei Fuร, zakลadaj, siku and a la cama.
And (I presume) she will speak #Portuguese with the local dogs ๐ .
What a waste... ๐

Anyone remembers the good old version of Memrise, where you created memes that helped you memorize words?
I still miss it sometimes.
#langHangout Q6: Is there a language you used to speak but have forgotten?
My answer: Yes, and a couple of them :( For example Turkish, which I used to speak at a B1-B2 level... I thought after reaching this level languages just stay in your memory forever... It's been 10 years since I've used it last, and it's totally gone.
It breaks my heart a little, it feels like losing a good friend that I was simply too busy to text.
#langHangout Q5: What's the very first thing you do when starting to learn a new language?
My answer: Well... come up with a very detailed and a very ambitious plan for my study, obviously. And it guess it goes without saying that I'm not able to stick to it for longer than a week.
I hope you people do better ;)
Anyone knows any European Portuguese resources that I can use to practice my pronunciation? Like a bank of sentences I could play and repeat after, or something similar... I checked Tatoeba but I mostly saw Brazilian audio there.
Any tips will be appreciated, I'm desperate ;)
#langHangout Q4: How did your language learning go today?
My answer: It... didn't. It's been weeks since I touched languages. It's always like that. Either I'm manic or not interested at all. This really sets me back. I'd be motivated and learn a 100 new words each day for a week... and then forget everything over weeks of inactivity. Eh.
Do you people manage to get your learning together and follow a reasonable routine?
#langHangout Q2: What is your main goal when learning languages?
My answer: I only learn languages for fun. I know I will probably never get to use them in a conversation, and that's okay. What bring me most joy is to be able to consume content in new languages, especially books, series and podcasts. So in my learning, I focus on comprehension. My main goal is to be able to pick up any book in my target language, and read it without looking up any words.
How about you?

Hey! I wonder if there is a hidden language learner community out here. I guess there's many of us, we just need to come together.
I will just start this little game of posting language learning prompts, and I hope you join along.
(I stole the idea from #writerscoffeeclub, which I really enjoy following - someone please let me know if that's not okay ;)).
#langHangout Q1: What language have you always wanted to learn but just canโt bring yourself to start?
