The State of Oregon and the Federal government recently provided Intel with a substantial amount of taxpayer money, yet they continue to lay off employees. It is unacceptable to continue giving publicly traded companies taxpayer handouts, as it insults the working class who are struggling to make ends meet while corporations are being propped up by the middle class and low-income households. Furthermore, for decades, Intel has been replacing its American workers with foreign workers using H-1B visas. #NY is first state in #US to add the disclosure, which could help regulators understand AI's effects on the #labormarket. The change takes form of a checkbox added to a form employers fill out at least 90 days before a mass #layoff or plant closure through the WARN system. At the time of writing, no companies filing WARN notices in the state have said the layoffs were due to AI.

What we’re seeing is late stage capitalism. Mass layoffs. RTO mandates. Federal positions eliminated. Gov’t contracts slashed.
Highly qualified cybersecurity professionals - people with decades of experience, degrees, certifications, security clearances, leadership experience - are out of work right now!
And yet, people are still out here pushing “just get a cyber cert,” or “go get a cybersecurity degree,” as if that’s going to solve anything. It won’t!
This isn’t a skills problem. It’s an economic problem!
Look at the CEO-to-worker pay ratio. Look at how shareholder profits and quarterly earnings are the only thing that matter in boardrooms.
Companies would rather lay off entire cybersecurity teams than risk slightly lower short-term profits. It’s unsustainable! It has been for years!
White collar technical fields have been largely insulated from this before - but now?
We’re in the “Find Out” stage of the capitalism FAFO cycle.
If you’re struggling right now: It is not you. It’s not your skills. It’s not your résumé!
It’s the system! We're in a bad system and the system needs fixed holistically.
