Taking photos of leaves is so much more efficient than trying to collect them. Back in college, I had an extensive leaf and acorn collection that would have impressed even the richest of squirrels.

This morning we walked around the lake in our community for the first time since #helene - plenty of large trees down, leaning or smashed, but luckily very few homes damaged. Trail was open, so there's been lots of work done here already.

Since few tourists will be able to see our area this autumn, here are a couple of photos of color.

The sun has crested the mountain to the east, and this side of the lake is now in sun. The surface of the lake is smooth, and branches pointed up out of the water have a clear reflection.

The trees on this side are turning yellow and red. Directly in front of this is an old downed tree, and part of a bench

More photos from the western side of the lake, as the sun begins to light everything up. This picture is pointed more northward, so not getting a faceful of sun right now, but shooting through the thinning deciduous trees to the pretty lake with fog still rising from it. The sky is a cloudless blue.

There are colors of green, yellow and red in these trees.

Another shot from the same location, with several large tree trunks in front of the lake, some pine boughs and a very attractive red maple tree right down in the water. The water is a flat grey blue from this angle. The sun has lit everything up in an attractive backlight.

We are back home. We did the annual leaf peeping drive. Success. It was a little past peak everywhere we went, except for around the lakes region. It still looked pretty fantastic though.

We didn’t pull over very much so there aren’t a lot of pictures. We did stop for gas and bathrooms a couple of times, and one stop was at The Willey House on route 302. I have a few pics from there, both film and digital.

It was a nice drive. I enjoyed spending the day with my wife, the love of my life. Any time we can just be together is a thrill for me and time very well spent.
