Granted, some areas of #InternationalLaw are working fine. Nearly all countries honour treaties on the allocation of radio frequencies & satellite orbits, just as nearly all motorists drive on the correct side of the road.…

But when it comes to #HumanitarianLaw, there is no consensus. The high-minded principles that led the #LeagueOfNations to set up the first world court, in the hope that “law & justice” would trump “diplomatic expediency”, are clashing with the hard reality of #geopolitics.

The #leagueofnations did survive the absence of the #us and was effective for some of its existence particularly in the 1920s. Some bits of it later subsumed into the #un - most notably the #internationallabourorganisation . There may be scope for cooperation between the 'middle powers' and #china to keep it - the #un - functioning to some extent.
