16-Feb : An actor that inspired a quest (watching other works)?
I started quests with my very 1st kDrama, so I have many ongoing.
The most successful quest that started in 2024 is Lee Seung Gi. I first saw him in "A Korean Odyssey," then went on to "Vagabond," "My Girlfriend is a Gumiho," and "King 2 Hearts."
I wasn't crazy about Gumiho, but he was great in the rest.
Not only is he a great actor, but he sings (he's done some of his dramas' OST songs), he's a philanthropist & he has led efforts to make the South Korean entertainment industry better and safer for actors & idols.

A Korean Odyssey

Hong Sisters once again take a classic novel (Journey to the West - China) & adapt it into a Korean epic. I watched with people who read the book, so I had more insight into the characters than usual.
A story about deities & humans, & good & evil. Lee Seung Gi is fabulous as a mean god forced to help a lowly human. The secondary characters (my favorite zombie ever) are truly gems, bringing comedy & heartfelt emotions into supplemental storylines. Many unique characters - a monkey, a piggy, an octopus/dragon king, devil kings, a zombie, a priestess, evil spirits & more - create an interesting story..
Coats are amazing. Bromance is funny & sweet. CGI is mostly crappy. OST is great. Story is out there, but generally very good. I thought the ending of some storylines failed a bit in just the last episode.

The immature prince of S. Korea's monarchy is part of international military games with a clever, strong, no-nonsense N. Korean woman. When disaster strikes, they end up betrothed as part of the negotiations. It's mostly about political intrigue, but this time on a global scale. The villain creates angst & suspense that are no joke.
It turned out to be a jewel (8.2 MDL / 9.5 Viki). Filmed in 2012, it felt current with great acting & cinematography. It had beautiful character dev., but not in a predictable way. Initially, the ML's character is infuriating & the FL's character was a little frustrating at times, but I came to love them both. With scenes that are heartwarming, shocking, heart-wrenching, humorous, & desperate. The fictional discussion of North/South relations makes a riveting watch.

My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho
(2010 - Viki, 16 1:10 eps)
A Gumiho who wants to be human encounters an irresponsible, immature college student & saves him. He promises to help her & they develop feelings. I disliked the director's choice to convey the characters' inner thoughts - just talking out loud to themselves - horrible.
It is 14 years old, but even allowing for age, the production value is lacking, special fx are horrendous & the kisses are wooden. The fantasy elements of the story seemed to be made up as they went along & I was never exactly sure of the antagonist's motives. The leads are super-cute. It did have some sweet moments & some good comedy - especially the Gumiho's misunderstanding of human desires. I enjoyed watching in a B-movie way.

An amazing action drama! A martial arts-trained stuntman's orphaned nephew is killed & now he is at the center of a deadly conspiracy along with a gov. intelligence agent. Every episode is an emotional roller coaster ride as the characters develop amidst deadly threats from every direction. The acting is phenomenal. The special effects are Hollywood-level. The chemistry is palpable.
Not your usual let's-blow-something-up so we don't have to worry about having a good story action series. A great story carries the drama, car chases, shootouts, & stuff getting blown up are just extra goodies. We also get to examine what's moral, what's right, & does the end justify the means.
Unfortunately, Season 2 is required to finish this story. Maybe that was the original plan & the pandemic got in the way? Hoping S2 comes soon.

@s1m0n4 I remember watching this and thinking "oh, they have set it up for a 2nd season". Haven't missed it. My issue is that I am not a fan of Suzy's acting. And I can take or leave #LeeSeungGi. I will give him kudos for #AKoreanOdyssey.

How have I never seen Lee Seung Gi in anything before?? He is amazing! I will be on a quest for his work this year.

I also finished watching Trans-Siberian Pathfinders. Which has #LeeSunKyun #KimNamGil #GoGyuPil and two others. It was fun watching them all as a group.
And I caught up on #Heartbeat ! That show is really funny. I am enjoying this vampire out of water lol
