Geert de Koning, master printer at ‘Factotum Pers’, challenged himself to print his own colourful version of Alphabetum Romanum (Felice Feliciano), using polymer plates and letterpress printing. Expected Spring/Summer 2025.

I did some research on constructed capitals to use in the introduction I wrote.

As an added thank you to Word on Fire, I made a small edition of letterpress prints of the portrait recently completed for them. I also handset an accompanying title card and printed those on my tabletop press. This was my first time printing on my machines (and typesetting by hand) so it was a learning experience but a lot fun.

Rainer Gerstenberg’s shop https://flickr.com/photos/15484239@N00/sets/72157711099417871 in Darmstadt is one of the last places in the world casting metal foundry type from the 20th century, including fonts from Olive, Nebiolo, Haas, Klingspor, Weber, and Stempel, where Mr. Gerstenberg was trained as an employee in 1963. https://www.rainer-gerstenberg.de/cast-lead-types/?lang=en Letterpress printers on both sides of the pond have relied on the foundry for new type.
