Academic Librarian Burnout: A ...
Dartmouth football is now 5-0. Just grabbed the pair of dedicated earplugs I now keep in my desk for just this purpose.
I'm impressed by their timing. They always start "Hey baby, I wanna know" as they pass the circ desk.
I want to bring back libraries that are actually quiet
This #ChildlessCatLady is gonna show #Vance EXACTLY what kind of stake I have
Fuck him and the (poor) horse he rode in on
It's alumni week, and there are a lot of kids here. I got to give one boy directions to the bathroom (while he hopped from foot to foot), then later I got to give him five (5) pieces of tape.
A girl just came by with her dad asking where the movable stacks are, because they are so fun (they are).
And a man just walked by while explaining the concept of infinity (math major, or theology?) to his child.
"Haven't you read the email about that?"
"DO I LOOK LIKE SOMEONE WHO'S READING THEIR EMAILS?"
- overheard in the #library, finals week edition
Tonight I found a tall, wooden library cart in a dark corner, surrounded by other, lower, *newer* library carts. On the end of it was taped a printed name tag: "Tipping Toby."
I think printers were the worst thing ever created...
I am still amazed that people will go to print.[libraryname].org and successfully upload their print but then think that it will immediately print but that they have no idea where. The idea of going to the actual printer to release it is just not computing
The library is PACKED tonight. Lots of folks printing and stapling term papers, starting to cram for finals.
And of course catching up with each other. Loudly.
Halfway done with this shift, and only 7 pages left of indexing to do.
Luckily I have a Rivers of London book to read when I finish.
Smartphones killed the ability for the general public to use a computer #LibraryWorker
Patron Stories from the library:
<patron> comes in the library each day, does specific google searches to find errors in the search. Documents it in a daily notebook. Then emails google support to correct the error.
Library life, how do you ask a patron to keep their noise level down when there is a live jazz performance in the library?

I need more #librarians, #libraryworkers and #libraries to follow. If you're out there, shout at me! I can't say I'm a fun account, but there are frequent dog antics. #librarian #libraryworker #library #publiclibrary
While I'm thinking about it: I'm looking for #mazeldon and #librarian / #libraryworker thoughts. I'm contemplating withdrawing The Boy in the Striped Pajamas from our collection. I'm having trouble coming up with reasons to keep it, other than "it's really popular," and "people will expect we'll have it." Thoughts?
Just found out that J. Edgar Hoover was a #LibraryWorker at #LibraryOfCongress when he was in college, and it made me think about how many #LibraryWorkers have cop tendencies. π€
