#LikeFlowersInSand

End of the Year Drama Challenge Day 27:
A 2024 drama too few people watched?

Like Flowers In Sand

You learn about ssireum, a Korean wrestling sport, and see how it impacts small towns, along with gambling, friendship, and gossip.

Episode 9 has another scene where Baekdu cuts through all the bullshit and reiterates how much smarter he is than he seems.

Genius Himbo Baekdu!

What I didn't catch the first watch and am appreciating now are all the single shot scenes. Commonly, a long scene is full of cut-shots: camera A, camera B , compiled into one scene.
#LikeFlowersInSand has some beautifully shot scenes with no cuts, as folks walk down a street, around a corner, etc.

Episode 5 of the #kdrama #LikeFlowersInSand includes a controversy and I find the way the male lead handles it to be so exemplary and heart-warming. He could have gone one way, but instead stuck to his solid knowledge of self and those around him, his solid knowledge of ethics and power dynamics, and his extraordinary understanding of humans to right a situation (or two) with the utmost care for the person most hurt by it.

Ugh, I love his character so much!

Because Spouse and I finished watching (rewatch for me) the #cdrama #JoyOfLife and the western show #WelcomeToWrexham, we needed a new show to watch. I gave him two options: the #kdrama #LikeFlowersInSand and the cdrama #WhoRulesTheWorld. We watched one episode of each.

He was disappointed by the 1st ep of LFIS, but now is fully invested (we watched 2-5 last night). It is quiet but full of heart. And mysteries. And small town sports culture. And childhood to adulthood friendship changes.

I love hearing the distinct Namhae (southern South Korea) accent of Bora's family compared to the Seoul (northern South Korea) accent.

It reminds me of the same accent used in #LikeFlowersInSand. The small town Korean accent. The cadence and pronunciation are so different.

In #HospitalPlaylist, the Junwan and Ikjun characters both came from southern South Korea and there are scenes playing on the accent. I didn't recognize it in 2021, but I might now... πŸ€”

Wow, I just finished the #kdrama #LikeFlowersInSand and it is a solid 9. Good story. Great characters. Exciting sports scenes. Good murder mystery that didn't spoil the overall good vibes.

I nominate Baekdu as best himbo of 2024. πŸ₯°

All episodes now available on Netflix.

@MisuseCase yesssssss I love this show ( #LikeFlowersInSand ) so much! It is quiet and not a lot happens but a lot happens at the same time? Baekdu is my favorite himbo since the hockey player in #CrashCourseInRomance.
#kdrama

Caught up on the #kdrama #LikeFlowersInSand with just the last two episodes to air.

I think this is the BEST representation of childhood friendships and love I've seen in a kdrama. Like they could have been and could be GENUINE friends.

And I love how Baekdu is unwavering in his own knowledge of self. He is not troubled with anxieties or overthinking. He cuts through all the waves of BS by being his solid, genuine self. 😍

Similar to the #jdrama #SumoDoSumoDont, in the #kdrama #LikeFlowersInSand, we see strong bodies that are different from the slender, six-pack folks we usually see. The lead is strong and solid, with thick legs and a soft-but-strong torso. Much different from the usual very-slender, six-pack male leads we see.

I like it. πŸ‘πŸ»

I really enjoyed the cute #jdrama #SumoDoSumoDont (on Disney+). It was about a university trying to revive its Sumo club, and included different bodies and abilities, and even touched on how women are treated in the sport.

The #kdrama #LikeFlowersInSand on Netflix feels similar, about a small-town hero in their ssireum (Korean sumo?) club.

The hero is kinda dumb, but persistent, which reminds me of #WhenTheCamelliaBlooms. Plus, a murder mystery.
