The water sparkles in the sun at the mouth of the Humber River as it passes below the arch of the pedestrian bridge. Trees and rocks line the shore and condos rise beyond.

A swan stands on a submerged rock in the shallows.

Driftwood collects along the shore.

And, nearly a month later, the roll in the Technika 6x9 (although here with a 6x7 back), ends in the place it began. This time with more swans a a comparison between back swing, trying (but failing) to keep the length of the pipe in focus, and back tilt, with the just above the water surface.

Several swans swim around a decaying corrugated metal drainpipe stretching into the protected water within the further breakwater. Hazard buoys mark the end of the pipe and a swan stands on a mostly submerged stone and grooms between the markers. The focal plane has been manipulated to roughly follow the line of the drainpipe.

The same scene as before but gulls are flying by while a few also vie for position at the end of the drainpipe. This time the focal plane has been manipulated to a point just above the water surface.

A surreal, soft roiling cloud horizon over a colour-shifted gentle lake. A solitary waterfowl is in focus yet unclear in the near-field. A small dark form further away may be a second bird but we are unsure.

Yesterday’s kayak paddles past Sir Casimir Gzowski’s drainpipe on a slightly colourshifted planet but it’s really that cloudpuff that does it for me.

A swan, apparently presiding over a gathering of geese and ducks near the shore, stands on one leg in the shallows of a lake turned surreal in tone by film three decades past its use by date. The western skyline of Toronto and a distant flock of cormorants are in the distance.
