Takana ruovikkoa jonka edessä variksia ja joutsenia. Kuvassa varis näyttäisi seisovan joutsenen päänpäällä vaikka näin ei todellisuudessa ole.

Bongasin muuten linnun. Niitä saattoi olla useampikin.. 😄

Tiiättekö sen tunteen kun meette baarin ohi tai baariin ja siellä on ihmiset tosi äänekkäitä. Sitten siellä on se kaikista äänekkäin tyyppi.. Nyt kuvitelkaa, että suurin osa noista linnuista on se tyyppi ja lisätkää vähän desibelejä. Kuulosuojaimille olisi ollut tarvetta. 😑

All my photographing trips during the past few weeks have been for hawks. I’ve visited several countryside locations with varying success hawk-wise but even if the raptors wouldn’t show up, there were usually red-backed shrikes there, more than willing to pose for the photographer

I have so little experience on red-backed shrikes that I don’t know is the absolute fearlesness their general quality or is it only the juveniles who seem not to be afraid of humans. Either way, they really let me to approach, like this one here. Even if the photo in itself is somewhat boring, I still chose to post it as it brings up the beauty and elegancy of this bird (who of course has its dark side as butcherous hunter but let’s forget that for a while 😄)

En tiedä, miksi juuri tämän asian oppiminen tässä ja nyt - tänään - sai olon tuntumaan tyhmältä.

Niinkö semmoselta, että tämä on sellainen asia, joka olisi pitänyt oppia jo aiemmin elämässä.

For some reason, to me this photo looks like it would have been taken somewhere else than in Finland. Not sure where exactly but not in Finland

This papa shrike was spending time with his family of spouse and three young ones and it seemed like there was some sort of hunting lesson going on. At one point all five even sat on the same branch, occasionally dashing after dragonflies flying past and then returning to the class room 😄

I’m genuinely wondering howcome these living missiles do not get any neck injuries when plunging headlong to the sea. Haven’t seen any terns using wheelchair so they must know what they are doing

And this was actually the first time I ever saw a tern braking in the air and then flying briefly backwards when he re-positioned himself to align with the target. Spectacular!

I have this secret superpower: I can accidentally scare away pretty much anything worth photographing. Bearded reedlings, eagles, hen harriers - you name it. A few fellow photographers probably never want to see me again because of this and I’m just waiting for the day I’m famous enough that people start throwing stones at me when I show up 😄

Anyway, this sparrowhawk I spooked from just a few meters away was a different story. I didn’t ruin anyone’s shots, and I actually managed to follow its panic-filled escape and get some decent photos

My first ever sparrowhawk, so I’m happy! ☺️
