A #Photograph of one of the two #Marble #Lions that stand outside the bridge from St Augustine to #Anastasia #Island in #Florida, gifted by local Dr. Andrew Anderson, and styled after the “Medici Lions” in the Royal Palace in Madrid.
They were carved in Florence, Italy and meant to grace a bridge that was to be as much artistic as functional between the two communities, giving it the nickname “Bridge of Lions.”

The maker’s mark on the #marble #sculpture purchased by St. Augustine resident Dr. Andrew Anderson.
He requested the Romanelli Brothers studio make versions of the “Medici Lions” in the Royal Palace in Madrid, Spain and donated them to the city to be placed in front of the new, artistically designed bridge from St Augustine to beautify the city.
