![<p>CEBU, Philippines – In the aftermath of the <a href="https://www.rappler.com/philippines/visayas/tragedy-malinao-family-bogo-city-earthquake/">September 30 earthquake</a> that hit Cebu, 77-year-old Jesus Alajid walked for kilometers under the heat in hopes of getting even just a bottle of water from the Daanbantayan municipal disaster response center.</p>
<p>Alajid is a <em>Lumad</em> (native) from Barangay Pajo, and his town is in the northern tip of Cebu. Daanbantayan is 23 kilometers north of Bogo City, close to the <a href="https://www.rappler.com/philippines/visayas/what-we-know-so-far-fault-caused-cebu-earthquake-september-2025/">earthquake’s epicenter</a>. </p>
<p>“The government gave us aid, and they brought it to our chapel. There were some of us who got [goods], but not all of us received them because there wasn’t enough,” Alajid said in Cebuano.</p>
