One of the nice things about working full-time is being to afford new gadgets. I recently bought a Logitech MX Master S3 mouse on the recommendation of my son. Woof! It's one hellva of a mouse and beats hands down the cheap wired one at work. Plus I think it's even better than Apple's Magic Mouse. Expensive for sure, but is absolutely a quality product.

It seems the #Logitech Harmony site came back up but only for two more days. But if any of you are proficient in #Linux or #programming, and you can connect your Logitech software to Harmony's site, you have a short window of time to figure out what it is sending to Logitech and what it is getting back. Maybe, just maybe, it would be possible to write a program that spoofs whatever the Harmony site is sending to or from the software, or if there is some way to monitor the USB connection, maybe you could figure out how and what it communicates with the remote and write a program that does that, but sadly you only have a very limited time to do it. This would be the type of #hacking some people would enjoy but whether any such people have Harmony remotes is the question.

(This is my original post:) Bad news for #Logitech Harmony remote users - I was just informed that Logitech has shut off its servers that were used when programming or re-programming those remotes, and without access to the servers the Logitech software won't do anything and therefore remotes cannot be re-programmed (you can't add or delete a new device, for example).
Logitech, what you should have done is released a final version of the Harmony software that would work even if it could not access your servers. But since you abandoned perfectly good products that people have been happily using for years, you are dead to me, I will never buy another of your company's products, not even a mouse.
What I wish would happen now is that someone who is proficient in programming and hacking would hack or re-engineer the Harmony software and come up with an open source equivalent that stores all your settings and preferences locally, and does not require a connection to anyone's remote server.
Or maybe someone (perhaps a #Linux guru) could design a modern equivalent of the Harmony remote, that stores all settings on the device itself (or on a local computer), maybe something based on a #RaspberryPi compute module or something.
What I absolutely, positively do NOT want is anything that requires use of a fucking PHONE. I am not a 30-something that has a fucking phone surgically attached to my hip, and I would like a remote that stays near the media center so that any member of the family (or even guests) can use it, just like the remotes that come with TV's.
Anyway, this is why you should never buy a product that relies on the manufacturer's (or someone else's) cloud service to operate. You just never know when that manufacturer will go out of business, or sell their operation to a larger company that couldn't care less about their existing customers, or just decide they are no longer interested in supporting that product.

I now own 4 #squeezebox radios (kitchen, living room, bathroom and a backup unit) and they still serve us well.
Long after #logitech dropped support the #opensource community keeps them alive and kicking with e.g. #airplay support.
Also check #iPeng for control from #iOS devices.
Soldered new switches in into my good old Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum, as the old ones started showing wear. I picked some slightly heavier ones than the stock switches were (Kailh GM 8.0), thinking "well how heavy can some mouse microswitches be lmao".
Well very heavy. Need to retrain my muscle memory to do double clicks properly. "lmao"
Also I sorta broke the turbo-scroll mechanism of this mouse while fixing the switches. Bummer.
