#LongCovidRecovery

I've crashed worse than I have in a while but just the knowledge that I'm off sick from work has helped. It's likely the increase in nicotine has helped too.
I think doing any paid work and being a student is just too much at the moment. I've tried to do both and been somewhat successful but to finish off the degree I feel I should take a break from working.

I really could've done without a neighbour's mum shouting abuse at us for being on what they thought was their land (which a surveyor had recently declared wasn't). As bad is the police not caring. Now I have to deal with the consequences. When you have long covid it's not one ruined day; it's a few. And no one cares.
I am motivated to work on my dissertation but my whole body and mind is heavy and it's like there's a tension everywhere making it hard to think.

Make it make sense. I have a couple ideas.

Things that trigger post exertional malaise lately:

- A stressful meeting in a room with several people
- Litter picking for an hour
- 9 minutes of constant slow cycling

Things that haven't or triggered it less than expected:
- cross country skiing
- aerial silks class
-moving 250m in water slowly (a bit but still not bad)

The difference talking to mentor once a week makes.
I've kept track of sleep, rest, general wellbeing and dissertation work time for a week.
I can see I rested an average of 82min/day (deep rest) and slept 8h. However, on the days I worked I rested less and slept less than average (probably when I need it most!) So Tuesday evening, Wednesday evening and Thursday I felt not so great.
So the next step is to rest the average amount every day and see how I feel.

Wow, you know a nidra yoga session was good when you're happy to keep resting for 14 minutes afterwards.

Maybe being forced to learn to rest my brain and be okay with quiet is ultimately a bright side of this long covid. I stopped napping at three years old and have been a very on the go person at times and other times tired and slower but still not resting. The modern world is loud and stimulating so it's rebellious really to seek out quiet and rest.

I definitely feel like I have a mild cold so I can't tell if yesterday's very short workout triggered any pem or not. I feel heavy but so far no worse than yesterday.

It took me seven hours to do two hours of dissertation work, two hours of deep rest and lunch. The rest of the time was transitioning between tasks, getting drinks, phone time and who knows.

I feel pretty bad and still need rest. Maybe I have a cold, maybe I should increase my daily nicotine amount.

I've tried for ages to record useful things for fatigue management and not kept it up. But now I've been recording a few things in a paper diary: sleep length, rest length, dissertation time, how I felt generally and things done that day. So far it is helping me to notice patterns and try to see if things are improving or deteriorating more than other methods.
Hopefully I sleep better tonight as I've been averaging 20 minutes less this week.

A WHN Kids’ Zone Magazine page titled "POETRY JAM" with a blue background and a rollercoaster illustration featuring two small pink rollercoaster cars with flames.

The main section is titled "EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER" in light blue text inside a rounded white speech bubble. Below, the text invites children to participate in a collective poem about their emotions related to COVID-19. It encourages them to use provided prompts and submit their poetry for inclusion in a collaborative piece.

A black-bordered box titled "Emotional Rollercoaster Collective Poem Tips" provides writing guidelines:

Start with negative emotions and end with positive ones related to COVID-19.
Use 11 or 12 syllables per line.
Some lines could rhyme.
Participants are free to ignore the rules if they want.
Suggested sentence starters:
"I am angry ‘cause….."
"I am sad because…."
"I accept that…."
"I am proud because…"
"I am happy ‘cause…."
"I am joyful ‘cause…"
"I am hopeful ‘cause…"
The page includes simple hand-drawn stick figures with different expressions: one crying, one holding a heart, another with crossed arms, and one inside a heart shape.

At the bottom, the page encourages kids to submit their poetry at WHN.global/KidsZone for a chance to be featured.A page from WHN Kids' Zone Magazine, Issue 07, titled "The Emotional Rollercoaster of COVID-19" with a rollercoaster illustration at the top. The page features a collective poem written in six vertical color-coded columns, each representing different emotions related to COVID-19.

The first column (pink) represents fear and anger, starting with:
"I am scared because many people don’t seem aware"
"I am angry because of disappointing friends"
"I am angry because indoor air is not being made as safe as possible for everyone"

The second column (blue) expresses sadness and loss, while the third (green) conveys concern and longing for pre-pandemic activities. The fourth (yellow) discusses adaptation and hope, the fifth (orange) highlights pride and gratitude, and the final column (purple) focuses on joy and newfound appreciation.

The last section features a lighthearted reference to "hurkle-durkling," described as relaxing in bed or lounging when one should be active.

At the bottom, the page includes the website link: WHN.GLOBAL/KIDSZONE, and the page number: Page 27.

Not only did I save money (€400 versus €3000 for a new e-bike!), but I'm riding again.

This isn't just about money - it's personal. After 2.5 years of not being able to cycle to work due to long covid and a broken e-bike, I'm finally able to do the 30km again.

Tomorrow I'll be cycling to work for the first time in years and I couldn't be more excited! 💪

Thanks N. for your support!😊

Back on the Road! 🚴‍♂️🔋

Replacing the battery on my e-bike wasn't as easy as it sounds! My e-bike is a custom build and after 8 years the battery finally gave out.

The dealer no longer sells the conversion kit I used, but luckily I found a compatible battery.

It took me 1.5 days of drilling, tinkering and patience to get it just right, but the hard work paid off.

So many exciting sniffs on today's little walk.

Had my kinesthethilogy appointment this morning and decided to push myself and take my boy for a little walk. I may have regrets later, but the air was so cool and fresh it was invigorating. Listened to one of my fav podcasts , @canadiantruecrimepod, which is always interesting! (Kristi is awesome, highly recommend!)

It's been a long time since I sat at jumping bean to write, & I'm unsure how long I'll be able. I'm trying to make myself do normal things even if I can only do it for 10 - 15 minutes at a time. Today? Going to try & work on my #newsletter.

Snip snip. Hedge cutting tires me out. Bit by bit. Relaxing with a pair of shears. Almost rather than dentist drill whirring. Minimal disturbance of garden wildlife. Hedge is slightly wet (stop it) so no blowing away of the cuttings.
No need to complete it all in one go. Not a task to be rushed or ticked off on a list. Very old school Sunday.

Close up of deep to dark green privet hedge mostly cut. Distance is out of focus but stretched away to the horizon. Focus is on the leaves. Earedt to the camera. Vertical or portrait orientation.Vertical look along a part cut deep green privet hedge. Housing in the far distance.

Mother's Day coffee date with hubby. Gonna try for a few words on a short story I'm working on. It's about cryptids in Newfoundland. It's slow, slow progress as I'm limited due to long covid, but all progress is still progress.

Beautiful soft & squishy #bluefacedleicester #wool. Ready for a hat I have in mind for a good friend.

I've had a bit of a #longcovid crash this week, which meant being unable to do much. But I find I can still #spin or #knit as it doesn't require me to stand. It's so good for my state of mind to be able to do something and I think spinning is soothing for my #nervoussystem.
