I came across him because I heard his Third Symphony while doing some housework. I wrapped up the housework ASAP and got on to YouTube. This symphony is a delight - of our time but totally accessible:

#HarryPartch was an American #composer #musictheorist, and #creator of #unique #musical #instruments. He composed using scales of #unequal #intervals in just #intonation, & was one of the first 20th-century composers in the West to work systematically with #microtonal scales, alongside #LouHarrison, he built his own instruments in these #tunings on which to play his #compositions, & described the method behind his theory & practice in his book #GenesisofaMusic (1947).
