"The Dreams in the Witch House" is the best H.P. Lovecraft story I've read so far. I'm impressed that he really did his research, like actually know who de Sitter was and how his work related to physics in general. That's pretty niche. This is pretty close to modern hard scifi.

The letter-writer gets a private tour to Pickman’s cellar painting studio and his models for his gruesome paintings. Cool idea, boring execution. This blah-blah-blahtered for ages and Lovecraft’s typical SHOCK AND HORROR last sentence reveal could be seen miles away.

Ohh I liked this! The slowly creeping horror and sense of impending doom ending in blubbering hysteria and inescapable madness. I wonder if TMA’s The End was partly inspired by Nyarlathotep…? (also, I had to go and listen to Dream Theater’s Dark Eternal Night)
