It kind of depends on understanding the Luddites to not be entirely anti-tech, but "opposing machinery that advantages few while harming many—not machinery, period."

@stefano I am certain they are. So far, #tech companies are pouring billions into #AI but there is little to no #roi.
For AI to be used correctly it needs to serve some otherwise mundane function, not replace staff with decades of institutional #knowledge.
So far, we've seen AI churn out glitchy #pictures and #erroneous #text #generation.
Call me a #Luddite, but this is definitely an instance where going back to the olden days is necessary, i.e. a decentralized #internet run by #humanbeings.

They resisted the enforced and rapid introduction of mechanization into their trade that was degrading working conditions, putting people out of work, lowering wages, lowering the quality of the product, and replacing skilled adult labour with unskilled and often child labour.

People are being fired, or employed precariously, because too much money has been funneled into the bankrupt technology of genAI and the profits have never materialized.
Companies cut costs with employment in order to keep fueling the investments in either building or using genAI.

I exported blog posts from an ancient Drupal website by piecing them together from the SQL dump and piped them straight into Directus via API.
There are a lot of little artifacts and I still need to clean up a mess of stray HTML tags.
But, y'know what? It feels fantastic to be able to move 20 years of content into a new home. It feels like a truly caring and tender relationship with technology.
Maintenance is a joy, not a problem to be automated away.
