Ambri Airport in Ticino valley, seen from a passing train. As the airport is taking up a significant part of the valley and doesn't see that much traffic, there's a road cutting across it. A tractor transporting a bale of hay can be seen crossing the airport's runway.

Löwendenkmal in the English Garden in Lucerne. A sculpture of a wounded lion, about three times the real life size, carved in a cliff, over a serene water pool. It gives a sense of immense mourning and is absolutely massive.

It is also a rather controversial monument, and has been, since it's creation a good 30 years after the French revolution, and was driven by Swiss conservatives and funded by European royal families. It commemorates the Swiss guard regiment who got killed covering the retreat of the French royal family. As Swiss public was generally in favour of of the French revolutionary movement, this was an attempt to sway its opinions.

Sixth day of the train journey around #Switzerland last year. From snow and glaciers on the day before, to the almost tropical climate of #Lugano. The lake is incredibly gorgeous, multiple settlements around its edge used to be accessible only by boat, until recently. Some of them still can't be reached by car, only on foot and by bike - we saw some deliveries done that way. And it really, really screams "old money".

In Lugano we cheaped out - scared off by the local coffee shop prices for breakfast, we settled for a McDonald on the lake's shore. Definitely the most expensive and the nicest McDonalds I've ever seen - including table service even.

#Interrail day 4/7: unfortunately I have to leave #Rimini, but thanks to #Nödbroms I could sleep longer as the #train station is only 7 minutes away by #bike 😃
I took the slower #frecciarossa to #Milano (3h), as everyone takes the fast one leaving some minutes earlier. In #Chiasso the #ECE150 was 30 minutes delayed and pretty cramped, but I managed to get the perfect place for my #brompton though they didn’t show which place is reserved before departure.
First class then got cramped in #Lugano

Restoration work is underway at the 1904 Cantonal School in #Lugano, Switzerland.
Typically, #construction waste is disposed of by being thrown down plastic tubes. However, in this case, the skip container was lifted up to the window using a crane. The only reason I can think of for this approach is some noise regulation, possibly due to the proximity of a park and lake. #WindowFriday #FensterFreitag

Habe alle Züge auf der Rückfahrt von der #TARNo2 bekommen. Wird sich auf die DB Seite verlassen, dauert die Reise relativ lang. Ich hätte 4 Stunden Aufenthalt in der Nacht in #Lugano gehabt. Habe die einzelnen Verbindungen selbst raus gesucht und habe dadurch den langen Aufenthalt am Bahnhof #Basel SBB. Von dort kann ich die 70 Kilometer mit dem Rad fahren. Von #Shkodër bis #Freiburg waren es dann insgesamt 200 Kilometer mit dem Rad.
