Another fire in the area, the #BootleggerFire (#236) was gridded and no sources of heat were found yesterday. Those smokejumpers will be transported off of the fire today. The #ShortcutFire (#322), south of Long Lake near Hay Slough continues to have six smokejumpers working to mop up areas of heat. Overall, fire managers are monitoring 34 other fires in the Tanana Zone and will staff those fires if conditions warrant.

Cooler, wetter weather patterns help to moderate fires in the Tanana Zone

Tuesday, the #LushFire (#199) experienced minimal fire behavior with backing and creeping fire & occasional tree torching. This fire behavior is expected to continue over the next day as a cooler, wetter weather pattern is in the area.

Yesterday, the North Star Fire Crew, SES Fire K-River Crew #1 & the Mooseheart continued their mission of creating & enhancing defensible spaces around values at risk. The BLM Midnight Sun hotshots continued to work directly on the southeastern edge of the fire perimeter, & continued setting up structure protection on a cabin further ahead on the river.

Much of this same work will continue today on the Lush Fire. Firefighters will work on mopping up the fire to ensure the fire does not move past the current perimeter. The hotshots will also continue to implement structure protection on multiple structures in the area.

The #ElephantFire (#225) was actively backing downslope yesterday towards the cabins. Firefighters worked to set up structure protection, including running a hose lay to one cabin, thin vegetation around cabins in preparation for the set up of additional structure protection measures. Predicted precipitation over the next day may moderate fire behavior. Firefighters will continue to implement structure protection measures today.

Firefighters continue work on the Lush Fire and others in the Tanana Zone

BY BLM ALASKA FIRE SERVICE on JUNE 24, 2025

On Monday, the #LushFire (#199) experienced limited fire perimeter growth with moderate fire behavior and isolated tree torching on the interior of the perimeter. Isolated areas of the fire received approximately 0.3” of rain yesterday.

Today, the North Star Fire Crew, SES Fire K-River Crew #1 and the Mooseheart Crew will continue their mission of creating and enhancing the defensible spaces in areas along the river corridor, including around Alaska Native allotments, structures and a cultural camp in the area. Structure protection is in place in these areas including sprinklers, hose lays and pumps. The BLM Midnight Sun Hotshots are planning to work direct on the southeastern flank of the fire today.

The #ElephantFire (#225) received no precipitation yesterday. Several smokejumpers were inserted on the fire yesterday to scout and assess needs for values at risk. Today, they will prepare to install structure protection.

Other fires in the area include the #ShortcutFire (#322), south of Long Lake near Hay Slough, the Bootlegger Fire (#236) on the north side of the Yukon River, east of Ruby, and the Hay Fire (#257), approximately one mile south of Long Lake. Overall, fire managers are monitoring 34 other fires on the Tanana Zone and will staff those fires if conditions warrant.
