I've just learned that Microsoft has fired the entire MRTK team and it is also going to shutdown AltspaceVR soon. Very sad news, I had a great experience using MRTK in a couple of Unity-based VR projects and was eager to see the latest updates. Hopefully the team will be able to find better opportunities elsewhere 😢

Hey Steve... One of the few companies that could take MRTK under their wings is Qualcomm. MRTK is a must have for XR app (meaning non-game) development, which is an important area for Qualcomm to support to catalyze growth in the overall XR space. Maybe you can pull some strings?

Complete meltdown for #XR companies today as Microsoft fired their team developing #MRTK.

Is anyone aware of community efforts to maintain it?

I'm truly sorry for the #MRTK team. Layoffs are always tough,but they were so close to the end of a multi-year effort of a new major version - which would've been important not just to Hololens, but the entire XR industry.

Feeling all gloomy about Microsoft's XR efforts now.
