Spotify wrapped just released a few weeks ago and I'm pretty sure I already managed to put the Made in Abyss soundtrack into next year's wrapped.
I can't say yet whether it's my favorite soundtrack, but it's probably on a shared first place with the one from Expedition 33.
I'll bet that Kevin Penkin will be my most listened to artist of 2026. Let's see whether Evan Call ruins this bet once season 2 of Frieren releases in a few weeks.
Kevin Penkin just cannot produce bad music. I've been listening to this one all day. The way it slowly builds up as it gets to that "theme" bit that starts around 2:00. The careful pauses between each part between 2:00 and 3:00. The soft vocals afterwards. It's perfect!

I don't know how I never discovered the Made in Abyss soundtrack! Also never watched the show.

L'intrigue ne sert que de prétexte a mettre en scène tous les fantasmes les plus pervers et monstrueux de l'auteur sur les enfants.
C'est flagrant.
Et pourtant le succès et l'engouement autour ont été énormes. Et j'ai trop souvent lu ou entendu des fans minimiser ou justifier ces aspects.
Pour ma part c'est sans appel, j'ai immédiatement stoppé la lecture, et n'ai jamais regardé la suite de la version anime.

Comme beaucoup de gens à l'époque, c'est l'anime qui m'a fait connaitre Made In Abyss.
Alors oui, c'est très beau et ça donne envie de prime abord. De l'aventure, de la fantasy steampunk, des enfants héros.
Mais je me souviens très bien aussi avoir tiqué dès le début sur certaines scènes "limites".
Le reste était suffisamment accrocheur pour donner l'envie de connaitre la suite.
Donc j'ai voulu lire le manga en attendant la 2nde saison.
Et là, l'horreur.

I put the Made in Abyss OST into the playlist today. It's still one of my favorite soundtracks as most things from Kevin Penkin sit at the top floor for me.
This particular track from the first season with the ethereal vocals with the deep electronic bass. So good.
