This is the famous laurel forest of Madeira, Portugal. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, due to it being one of the largest remaining laurel forest in the world. Some of its trees are more than 800 years old. It is an essential place to witness for any photographer on the island. You should just be prepared that you will not wander these woods alone…

Well, advertising people are known to be batshit crazy but honestly who would think it's a good idea to run a truck with ultra-bright video side and back panels through long tunnels on a main road at a slow speed only suitable to frustrate all other people driving there - and possibly endangering them as well. This should at least be heavily fined!

One of my favourite vacations was visiting Madeira a few years ago. After walking half an hour in any direction it feels like suddenly you are on a different continent. And there is always the ocean around you, clashing against cliffs or giving you a backdrop for small towns.

Every now and then I need to paint it. This time with soft pastels, really working some pigment into the cliffside.

Benchmark der lokalen Rum-Größen von #Madeira: Dreijähriger 'o Reizinho' in Faßstärke gegen den fünfzehnjährigen 'Calheta Rum 15 Anos Reserva Especial'. Beide sind aus dem Preis-Segment über 50€ pro Flasche.

Mein Eindruck: Beide sind durchaus trinkbar, es fehlt ihnen aber die Schwere, Süße und aromatische Dichte, die ich bei Rum-Sorten aus der Karibik und Süd- und Mittelamerika schätze. Sie werden also keine meiner Lieblingssorten.
