Lucy on the windowsill, her mama and Tux (her brother and possibly also dad, whelp) on the porch. They don't seem particularly interested in each other, probably for the better.

A small tuxedo kitten on a windowsill. Through the window, under a table, a very out of focus grey cat can be seen. Another tuxedo cat is behind her, nearly hidden behind chairs and a table, but he's just visible.

Attempt number...? I lost count. Mama stopped sleeping in her shelter somewhere last week. As it turns out, her butthead son had been peeing all over it to mark his territory. 🀑 So now I've cleaned everything, added fresh straw, made a pee-barrier out of garbage bags and then treated everything with pheromone spray. It just reached freezing temperatures here so fingers crossed! These cats sure keep me busy 😝

Look who found the warm shelter I made for her πŸ˜„

Mama had a LOT of food today but she was still hungry when it was time for Tux's dinner. So I filled a big bowl for the both of them. Also, Tux got really close this time! πŸ˜„

I went to feed Tux around his usual time, but mama was right at the back door screaming at me for (more) food. (She was fed this morning). So I went and filled two bowls to make sure she'd leave some for Tux.

As mama and I walked to the back of the garden, I noticed he was following us unusually closely. And then I put the food down and suddenly he was sitting right in front of me. Looks like his mama is setting a good example after all. β™₯️

A slightly distorted image because it was taken in near complete darkness. It shows a garden at night with a small grey cat in the foreground, eating from a bowl. About three feet away sits a tuxedo cat, waiting until the human holding the camera moves away and it's safe to approach.

had been crying for hours on end, and suddenly she was quiet. Turns out had heard his mom's distress and came to keep her company. β™₯️

WELL THEN. Guess how we found out they separated from her and released her back to the streets? She's been here, searching and calling for her babies for hours now. We thought she had escaped, so I called the shelter and they explained they released her. At least she's sterilised now. Poor mama 😒

I called the shelter today to ask about and her . They've settled in and they're in good health, they were also very hungry. The lady at the shelter remarked that the kittens were already used to people, because they weren't scared at all. Which is true, right from the beginning they ran right up to me, whereas was terrified when we found her. So someone had already been in contact with these kittens, we just don't know who.

Success! Mama was surprisingly easy to lure into the cage. She also stayed surprisingly calm once she was in there, as long as she had food. Then it was just a matter of scooping up the kittens.

Of course, now I feel horrible for "betraying" her like that, I'm posting this mid- panic attack 😭. But hopefully mama will come back in a few weeks, and we want to try to adopt one of the kittens too. I miss them already.

I had to be very careful, just sticking the camera around the corner. She still saw it and it seemed to make her nervous so I didn't film too long. But what a precious sight this is β™₯️

I (very easily) managed to deworm this little loaf today πŸ’ͺ

Wow. I whistled together some scraps for insulation and not even a minute after everything was put in place, there she was 🀣

(It's not finished, going to continue soon, but for now it's better than nothing)

So, I finally have some progress to report on the feral cat situation! The official TNR instance for our municipality actually answered this time. They said they'll try to come out and trap and as soon as they can, but they are also way over capacity at the moment so there's still going to be a waiting list.

The good news is they're finally ON that waiting list now.

The first thing I saw when I came downstairs this morning was mama Lemon looking at me through the window, wondering why breakfast was taking so long 🀣 While she was yelling and hissing at me I suddenly heard another meow, and as I looked up I saw a startled Tux scampering away again.

So yeah, looks like they're both here to stay for the foreseeable future. (Still no luck getting a TNR set up, made another attempt today)

Mama is back, eating treats out of our hands while hissing cause she's also scared. But she hangs around when the treats run out so she's clearly not thΓ‘t terrified. Tux on the other hand... πŸ˜…

(Also Lemon is staring at us through the window. Husband went in and gave her some treats too, poor baby 😁)

A photo of mama Lemon sitting under the canopy behind our house, bathed in the light from the open garage. Further back, in the garden, there's a barely visible Tux staring at us. I drew a helpful arrow to point him out.
