Is it me or is the ping the #AirPods case does when charging the same as the first note of Wintergatan’s Marble Machine song?

Here’s my build of the Bambu Lab Marble Run 003 kit. It’s printed in Polymaker PolyTerra PLA filament. It looks great, but it seems to be a bit too rough and the motor isn’t able to run the machine.

The mechanism is so mesmerizing (requires viewing in slo-mo) I could watch for hours. Makes me want to build my own version so I can finally put to use the bag of tiny springs which my Dad had harvested from various printers and tape players over the years

I love watching Marten's Videos of his Progress and his journey to the next version of his #marblemachine

I see them as a analogy or a guide to non-engineering process design as his assumptions can easily transfered and used to pretty much any design-process

When his Videos are not highly informational, they are funny or (not XOR) entertaining.

3D Printed Marble Music Machine Looking Good Already

Inspired by the enormous marble music machines from the staggeringly talented [Wintergatan] and the marble run builds by [Daniel de Bruin], [Ivan Miranda] has been busy again building a largely 3D printed contraption to test his ideas around building his own marble music machine from scratch. (Video, embedded below.)

Leveraging his recent experiences with resin printing and his own giant 3D printer, he had no difficulty in producing everything he needed from his workshop, even if the design work apparently took ages.

The build shows how early in development this project is, as there are clearly quite a few issues to be dealt with, but progress looks encouraging so far. To be clear, plans are to 'go big' and this little eight-channel testbed is just to explore this issues around ball guiding, transport and ball release onto the first audio test device, a Korg Nano Pad 2.

Some significant teething problems were identified, such as when [Ivan] designed the ball lifter, he intended the balls to load from the rear, but then needed to switch it to load from the front. No big deal, simply reverse the motor direction to load balls on the opposite side of the mechanism. Sadly, that also meant the directly coupled note drum was now also rotating the wrong way to release the balls. Oops. A quick hack later and [Ivan] was back in business. Various parts needed shimming up with plates, but with 3D printers on the bench, knocking those out took little time or effort. This just shows how darn useful 3D printers can be, allowing you to iterate in a short time and feed your hacks back into the final version.

[Ivan] is clearly going to have a lot of 'fun' with this one, as [Wintergatan] will surely testify, these big musical marble machine builds are quite some undertaking. We shall definitely be tuning in later on to see where this one goes!

While we're on the subject of the [Wintergatan] marble machines, here's a mini homage to the latest Marble Machine X, and if you're in the need for a 3D printed marble clock, then try this one for starters.

BEAM-Powered, Ball-Flinging Beam Has Us Beaming

We have a soft spot for BEAM projects, because we love to see the Sun do fun things when aided by large capacitors. [NanoRobotGeek]'s marble machine is an extraordinary example -- once sufficiently charged, the two 4700 μF capacitors dump power into a home-brew solenoid, which catapults the ball bearing into action toward the precipice of two tracks.

[NanoRobotGeek] started with the freely-available Suneater solar circuit. It's a staple of BEAM robotics, slightly modified to fit the needs of this particular project. First up was verifying that the lever (or beam, if you will) principle would work at all, and [NanoRobotGeek] just built it up from there in admirable detail. The fact that it alternates between the swirly track and the zigzag track is entrancing.

There are several disciplines at play here, and we think it's beautifully made all around, especially since this was [NanoRobotGeek]'s first foray into track bending. We love the way it flings the ball so crisply, and the track-changing lever is pretty darn satisfying, too. You can check it out in action in the video after the break.

Although this was [NanoRobotGeek]'s maiden marble track, it's not their first circuit sculpture -- check out this flapping, BEAM-powered dragonfly.

Martin shares his disappointment in ’s ad-based business model. If you don’t turn on ads on your own uploaded videos your videos are less like to appear in recommendations. So you’re basically choosing between worse viewer’s experience or less spread of the video. You turn on ads not to make money but to spread your videos. It’s YouTube who makes the money for themselves. YouTube is just a bad place for your art.
