We're on a promenade next to fairly rough sea and sunset is almost upon us. The promenade curves from under our feet to the left out of view then back in to a rounded point directly ahead of us where a narrow paved ramp leads up the hillside we can just see to the left and where the promenade continues around out of sight. Metal railings protect us from the tapered, 2-metre high sea wall of ribbed-looking concrete. Clouds are gathering on the horizon with the onset of evening. A thin band of clear sky at the base on the horizon allows a warm glow from the sun mostly behind the clouds to cast some heat. Where the sun is we can see bright white and long sun beams stretching out in all directions over the grey cloud face to reach the sea. The patchy, clearer sky to the top right is a pale blue. The water appears a green-black ink, textured with flecks of foam on its waves. Water has crashed with enough force against the sea defences ahead of us to send three white jags of waves upwards seeking access to the promenade. It feels powerful and the weak sunshine is welcome against what must be a chilly breeze coming off the sea.
