An inspiring piece from Indo-Fijian and queer artist, Shyama Kuver. The quote from Mariame should be our collective guiding light as we face the horrors around us.

Illustration in the style of woodcuts of two hands with outstretched fingers, slightly curled. The thumbs are together grasping a geometric shape that’s the same color as a phrase that outlines one of the hands: “bodily autonomy for all.” Surrounding the illustration is a quote from Mariame Kaba that reads “let this radicalize you rather than lead you to despair.”

Ahhhhhh this #MariameKaba presentation on zines as community archives was thrilling. Loved the connections with early pamphlets and magazines made by Black people in the US, and her thoughts on the relevance of DIY publishing in, uh, high censorship environments.

Though we're in February of 2025 I don't think it's too late to say that my current favorite book is "No More Police" by #blackfeminist #MariameKaba and #AndreaRitchie

Unfortunately, I had to return "Let this radicalize you " to the library. I'll get it again later.

“Action is a practice of hope. Put another way, hope is generated through action. ‘Doing’ allows us to derive experience and meaning - it is through doing that we experience feeling.…

So I wake up every single day and decide to practice hope.”

I aspire to practice hope like Mariame Kaba.

Now would be a timely moment for people to read "We Do This Till We Free Us", by Mariame Kaba.

Finished _No More Police: A Case for Abolition_.

A great introduction to the ideas behind and goals for police and prison abolition. No matter your stance on abolition, this book provides a helpful context for understanding.

"Safety is a rhetorical weapon wielded to make people feel less safe. We are in an endless cycle of fear, which generates an authoritarian reaction, generating more fear and more authoritarian reaction. How do we break free?"

"We don’t know what our nation without police would look like. But we know that our society with police is violent, racist, precarious, unequal, and unfree."

#DeathPanel speaks with #MariameKaba and #MelissaGiraGrant about the importance of understanding the library as a site of political contestation and a rare expression of the commons in contemporary US life, and how left organizers are fighting back against right wing attacks on public space

With the #SCOTUS #AffirmativeAction decision, I’m def leaning on words of advice from activist extraordinaire, #MariameKaba

“Let this radicalize you rather than lead you to despair"

Two-panel meme based on Simpsons cartoon
(1) A bus driver is driving while saying "Don't make me tap the sign"
(2) A hand points to a sign that reads "Let this radicalize you rather than lead you to despair"

I am listening to the audiobook of #MariameKaba's book #WeDoThisTilWeFreeUs and the narrator is getting hot under the collar every now and then. I mean, I would be too, this book is so important and so full of discussion of unjust things. I don't know how she's keeping her composure. I wonder how many takes she had to do.

> I tell people that our #criminal #punishment system is #racist, that it's #classist, that its #sexist, that it's #transphobic, and that it's more. I tell people that we spend a lot of #money on locking people up in our country. Too much money on locking people up in our country. $70B to be exact, every single year, to lock people up...even with all of that...we're still a country that lives with #fear...
