¿Sabían que el personaje de Iron Fist (Puño de Hierro), creado por Roy Thomas y Gil Kane en 1974, no nació solo de la fiebre por las artes marciales de los años 70, sino de una profunda amalgama de literatura de aventura y misticismo oriental del siglo XIX?

Aunque popularmente se le asocia con el cine de Bruce Lee, su origen técnico se inspira en el personaje de Amazing-Man (John Aman), creado por Bill Everett en 1939, quien a su vez bebía de las crónicas sobre ciudades perdidas en el Tíbet. La ciudad de K'un-L'un, donde Danny Rand obtiene su poder, está fundamentada en el mito de la montaña sagrada de Kunlun de la mitología china, considerada un paraíso que conecta la tierra con el cielo.

Un detalle relevante es la integración del concepto del "Chi" o energía vital. A diferencia de otros héroes de la época cuya fuerza provenía de accidentes científicos, Iron Fist introdujo en el cómic occidental la noción del control bioenergético a través de la disciplina mental y física, un puente entre la filosofía oriental y el entretenimiento de masas.

El rigor del personaje en sus primeras etapas buscaba respetar la tradición de las artes marciales, alejándose de la caricaturización y enfocándose en el camino del guerrero como una búsqueda de integridad personal, un tema recurrente en la literatura clásica de formación.
