:mastodon: We created an important issue and discussion about the problematic moderation behaviour of mastodon.social. Normally we do not interfere with the moderation of another server, but because most new users will end up on mastodon.social, we think it's of great importance for the Mastodon project to speak-out.
This is the text:

I am very happy that today we merged the pull request switching the Mastodon frontend build chain from the very old (and outdated) Webpack 4 to @vite โก๏ธ
It is not visible to end-users but it will greatly improve the developer experience with working on the Mastodon frontend and opens the door for many good things.
I started the initial work 2 years ago, then @chaosexanima took over and got it over the finish line ๐

Is it safe to say that if I create an account somewhere with follow requests restriction turned on and boost all @ mentions I get, then this account will act as a kind of private group on Mastodon?
About groups, is there still any work going on to implement native groups in Mastodon?

Some #Smithereen updates:
- Friend lists: you can now assign lists to your friends. These are useful not only for remembering where you know someone from, but also for privacy settings.
- Email notifications: self-explanatory. You only start receiving them if you haven't visited for at least a day, as determined by the online status.
Previously i had written a masto patch to use favorite/boost counts from remote instances so that you would actually see the real* values instead of fedi appearing like a lonely and desolate place. that got merged, but it wasn't working bc ruby is a weird language. so fixed that, and if you're running anything downstream of mastodon nightly (like glitch) it should work now: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/34594

I think a major factor in people not sharing content (very much) on #Mastodon is that there are no notifications when someone interacts with content you shared.
Virality can have its downsides. But a platform that fails to acknowledge the importance of people who share content in a social network, only those who create it, is swimming upstream. Those who share are network.
The balance right now doesn't seem right.
