#MathArtMarch Day 8: Pentagon (final post!)
Here are 51 pentagons in a centered pentagonal pattern. Part of an ongoing series of artworks expressing the positive integers as a geometric arrangement of identical simple visual elements.

#MathArtMarch Day 7: How Many?
How many small white circles do you see? Clever counting should reveal a fun answer.

#MathArtMarch Day 6: Single Line
One single line (in a general sense) that draws 2025.

A repost from #genuary2025.
#MathArtMarch Day 5: Discovery
Julia is the Solution
This work pays homage to Julia Robinson (1919β1985). Her work was a critical component in discovering a proof (negatively) of Hilbert's tenth problem.

#MathArtMarch Day 4: Swirly
Here are 89 circles on a phyllotactic spiral. Part of an ongoing series of artworks expressing the positive integers as a geometric arrangement of identical simple visual elements.

#MathArtMarch Day 3: Nature
Swirling Snowflakes
It wasn't until the early 1900s that scientists began to understand the nature of frozen water crystals that leads to their beautiful structure.

Still catching up with early #MathArtMarch themes.
#MathArtMarch Day 2: On a Square Grid
Here are 41 superellipses on a rotated square grid. Part of an ongoing series of artworks expressing the positive integers as a geometric arrangement of identical simple visual elements.

Bah! Stupidly missed the last day of #mathartmarch! I blame shingles vax side effects. Not sure what I'd have posted. My work is certainly changing so that fits the prompt which was "change". Expect knitted wall art subjecting traditional Fair Isle patterns to Conway's Game of Life. No photos yet.
It's April but people are still posting on the #MathArtMarch feed. Clearly it's staying up while People are still using the #tag but... ... should I update it to look for more tags. Like, dare I say it, #MathArtApril?
#MathArtMarch Day 1: Circle
Here are 190 ellipses in a circular pattern. Part of an ongoing series of artworks expressing the positive integers as a geometric arrangement of identical simple visual elements.

Because I got a late start on #MathArtMarch, I am going to extend my posts into April.
At the end of #MathArtMarch I'm wondering whether I should unpublish the feed in a couple of weeks or leave it for people to honour #MathArtMarch in their hearts, and try to keep it all the year. Open to opinions, especially @ayliean.bsky.social's...
You can also check out all the #fractal images I have created using this method, and even download the #PowerPoint files to play around with yourself, here: https://emlyn.github.io/PowerPointFractals/#index

Our final #MathArtMarch contribution is for the 'Symmetry' prompt. With black craft paper & tissue paper, you can make your own stained-glass-window style artwork with symmetrical patterns. mathsweek.scot/news/stained... #MathsToday #UKMathsChat #EduSky
#MathArtMarch Day 31 (Change)
I finally got around to making a short screen recording of how to create these #fractals in #PowerPoint.
Maybe it will change the way you create your presentations :-)

It's the last day of #MathArtMarch so we wanted to add to a couple more of the prompts we missed. Firstly, for 'Triangle', our geometric heart made entirely out of triangles! A simple art activity to discuss fractions & multiplication mathsweek.scot/news/geometr... #MathsToday #UKMathsChat #EduSky
#MathArtMarch Day 31: Change
One way to change MATH to ART.

Obviously I have to go back to my Game of Life Fair Isle project for today's #mathartmarch prompt "game". Here's my knitted portrait of its originator, John Conway, with heraldic bands of pulsars and gliders in traditional Fair Isle colours.

Anyone for a game of #fractal trains?

#MathArtMarch Day 30: Game
Take a number n, square the digits, add to get a new number, repeat. If the sequence ever reaches 1, the n is a happy number (green); otherwise (blue) it ends up in the 4, 16, 37, 58, 89, 145, 42, 20 cycle (red). It's a fun little arithmetic game to play.
