In light of the GOP attempting to add #Medicaid work requirements as a means to slash Medicaid spending, two KFF news stories:

â—Ź On the effectiveness of such requirements -- kffhealthnews.org/news/article -- Arkansas did not produce meaningful job gains. For individuals it increased debt and costs and delayed medication/treatment.

â—Ź On the implementation costs -- kffhealthnews.org/news/article -- Costs states $6M to $270M to set up, not including operating expenses.

@TCatInReality @GottaLaff 💯 I just found out that my deadbeat MAGA Rep is canceling and no-showing meetings with really well-connected physicians and our local hospital’s leadership team because they want to talk about the huge impact that cuts will have here. I found out in an executive meeting with all of the physician leaders for every department. We were all encouraged to keep calling and e-mailing him. He has unified a politically divided med staff against him.

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) encounters formidable challenges in pushing Donald Trump's budget plan, particularly regarding Medicaid cuts. Moderate Republicans like Reps. Bacon and Valadao oppose significant reductions, countering Majority Leader Scalise's claims of their support. With a narrow GOP majority, moderates' backing is crucial, yet hard-liners demand deeper cuts amid Trump's reluctance to compromise. The internal GOP discord complicates Johnson's agenda. When Andy Barr votes to cut (and, make no mistake, he'll fall in line to do so), almost 200,000 Kentuckians will be affected. Here's a breakdown of where/how folks in Kentucky's 6th District get their healthcare coverage.

"Sumana Reddy, a primary care physician, struggles on thin financial margins to run Acacia Family Medical Group, the small independent practice she founded 27 years ago in Salinas, a predominantly Latino city in an agricultural valley often called 'the salad bowl of the world.'

Reddy can’t match the salaries offered by larger health systems — a difficulty compounded by a widespread shortage of primary care doctors."

The #budget of the Ctr for #Medicare & #Medicaid Services would be slashed by $674M, but the #Trump budget claims the cuts would have *no impact* on providing #benefits to those enrolled in the #HealthInsurance programs.

Rather, it says, the budget “eliminates funding that had been used to carry out non-statutory, wasteful & woke activities,” in the 1st time a presidential budget has used the word “woke” in describing priorities. The budget also “eliminates #HealthEquity - focused activities.”

Using #Michigan as an example: There's ~740,000 Michiganders enrolled in #Medicaid via #ACA expansion who are at risk of losing coverage (~7.3% of the total population). IN ADDITION, there's ALSO another ~530,000 enrolled in ACA exchange plans, nearly all of whom are subsidized (~5.2% of the pop.)

#Trump is set to propose $163 billion in cuts to non-defense #DiscretionarySpending for the 2026 fiscal year in what's known as a "skinny budget" Friday.

The cuts are for spending #Congress authorizes each year—which does not include spending on safety nets like #Medicare, #Medicaid & #SocialSecurity.

The cuts…represent a 22.6% cut in projected #spending for the current fiscal year [as if costs weren’t going up]. They were confirmed by the White House #OMB….

Nobody's #healthcare is safe under #Trump. Even if you have great private group health insurance, you won't if the economy gets bad enough; even if your job survives, your local hospitals will not. People don't stop needing care. Hospitals just stop getting paid.

The attacks on #Medicare and #Medicaid, plus many people newly priced out of ACA plans, will mean millions more uninsured and unable to pay the hospital anything when they need emergency care.

Another reason we hit the streets.

HJC: a push by Rep Issa to codify Trump’s proposal of a “gold card” visa for wealthy foreigners was rejected by conservatives opposed to expanding visa programs.
